So I have heard swapping the rear manifold from the l36 to the l26 is needed in order to have the l26 in my car. Is this true?

no the manifolds all fit from the l26/36/32/67
@billbost said they were diff
The bolt pattern on the head is the same. You do not need to change the rear exhaust manifold to swap motors.
Rear manifolds on L36 and L67 can definately be different in the various different vehicles. Anyone who doesn't believe me, is welcomed to compare this L67 H body manifold to your L67 W body manifold.
Notice that the O2 would never be in the way of plug #6 on this H body manifold and anyone that has done a plug change on a W knows that you'll rub the O2 with an extension if you use one.
For the L26 motors, some are from LaCrosse/Lucernes etc. Those are not W body cars. They are H IIRC.
Your choice Tim, you can loosen 9 bolts now or when it's in the car.
Also....I'm BillBoost, maybe you aren't familiar with the fact that I've broken, swapped and learned more than my share on these motors, there's a couple things that are simple and quick enough where if there is any question about them being the same you should swap.
I see and I believe.
But I believe he doesn't have to use the L26 manifold, he can use the one that was in the car.
That is what I told him. Swap the rear manifold and never have a worry that the original to his vehicle will mate up correctly to the DP.
Its already in now. Oh well.
