Since I got the car about a year and a half ago, I'm losing oil. Not at an alarming rate, but I typically need to add a quart between oil changes. I am not seeing more than a drop or two of oil at a time on the garage floor under where I park my car, so it's not like it's gushing or anything, but I'm definitely leaking. My guess is valve cover gaskets. It looks like these are not a HUGE pain to replace, but is there anything else I should do (other than coolant elbows) if/when I do the VC gaskets? I'm not losing coolant and my oil is not all milk-shakey (whatever), so I'm guessing I don't need to mess with my UIM/LIM, and it's mostly likely just the VC gaskets. Is my thinking way off, or what?

Could be the oil pressure sending unit. Look on passenger side and see if any oil is coming out at all. Valve cover gaskets are almost always a leaky problem.

Even if your LIM gaskets aren't leaking, if they're not the aluminum ones, I'd do those ASAP. They worry me more than losing a bit of oil from VC gaskets.

Could be your oil pan leaking.

If the valve covers were really that bad to leave drops on the ground, your car would have caught fire and been burned to ground already.

Also wouldn't hurt to replace the PCV valve, if its all gummed up you could be burning alot of the oil.

Its always good to upgrade your LIM gaskets if there still the plastic ones I let mine go for a little to long and this is what it looked like witch is not good

while i had it torn apart i replaced my spark plugs and VC gaskets made it alot easier

I also upgraded to aluminum coolant elbows witch isnt a bad idea either

    Question

When replacing the valve cover gaskets do you also need to replace the rubber gromments?

You don't have to but you should considering that it already comes with it when you buy the set.

they sell just vc gaskets w/o grommets.
