I turned everything completely off, removed the key, tried again, same issue. Now however it kills while in idle if I touch the gas, MAF or Not, and when I can get it to idle, it definitely sounds like it's idleing a bit high. Got it to move enough to back it out of the garage a bit to put a jack under it. Still need to try to swap for my wife's MAF tonight when she gets home to see if that makes a difference, and thinking I should just bite the bullet and throw a new fuel filter on too.
by chance did you hear stuff rattling around inside the cat? if so its also dead/ fell apart.

and you'll need to drive it a bit hard for it to glow. idling wont do it.

No rattling or noise of any kind from the cat, and unfortunately I can't actually drive it, now it's just killing right after it fires, even at idle. I'm almost certain it's the MAF at this point.

i'd just drop your wifes maf in your car, and see how it runs if at all. you would think a code would be there for a maf, or at least the check engine light come on.

have you tried starting fluid yet? if it fires up, its fuel related then.

and checked for fuel at the rail?

Unbeknownst to me, my father-in-law has an ODBII reader, so I was able to pull the codes. P0107. MAP sensor low circuit. Explains why pulling the MAF didn't affect the problem. Checked the connector with the multimeter, voltage from the car is a rock solid 5v, nothing coming back. Gonna replace it tomorrow and check it again.

Yes actually... 4 weeks, and two tow trucks later I've ended up replacing both the MAF and the MAP now. Been a nightmare. Also had to replace my battery terminals, but my guess is that was just a coincidence.

Frustrating as hell since the engine itself runs like a top.

How many miles/what year is your vehicle?

I have a 1999 with 212k miles on it. I had this problem two years ago and replaced the MAP and the MAF and it was fixed. Now I've replaced the PCV valve and the assembly (was broken) and when I'd unplug my MAF, it wouldn't run. So i didn't think that was the problem. Now, I cleaned the throttle body, and tried again, and it runs pretty good without the MAF plugged in. So i'm not sure what to think. Because i'm pretty sure it runs ok with the MAF plugged in (after i clean the throttle body).

Have you rechecked for a MAP code? I've now replaced my MAP sensor twice since this all started. Broke down a third time and after getting it towed a Third time I found it was throwing the same MAP code (P0107 I believe, low circuit). Scared me since I didn't figure I should be burning out a brand new sensor that quick. Well, apparently after talking to a local mechanic that I trust and digging a bit online, the low-end MAP sensors from O'Reilly (or NAPA, or Auto Zone, or any other retailer) have a nasty habit of dying prematurely.

Dropped a new, better one in and all is well again. Hopefully for a while this time.

I was getting a code, I can't remember what it was. It was something to do with the MAF though. I think I'll try that out, but since this happened I got rear ended and totaled it. So it'll be my summer fixer upper and I just bought a 2001 Grand Prix today.

So I replaced the MAF again on the car. It ran perfect for about day or so. Now it's having the same issues. Any ideas? Could it be the harness to the MAF?

check the wires to the plug end for damage or missing or cracked insulation. if you find and of that get a new pig tail. if the code is for low voltage the wires could be damaged.
