I have a 97 GP 3.8. When the engine is cold is has all kinds of power but when it gets up to temp, there is hardly any power at all. You have to just about floor it to get it moving. I have a vacuum gauge and its reading 20, I believe thats normal. There is probably a thread already for this but I couldn't find anything. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

How old are your plugs and wires.
If you have power cold, that means your getting knock. Reason it works cold is the knock sensors aren't used until the car gets to abotu 160F

I don't have any codes and I just replaced the plugs and wires about a month ago cus I had a real bad missfire. Thats gone now and the motor is all stock

Got a scanner? I'd put money on this being KR.
Check that your #4 and #6 plug wires didn't hit and melt on the O2 and aren't touching the O2 wiring.

I have a scanner and yesterday I hooked it up and looked at everything and my scanner shows timing advance and it read (-) a number and the more I accelerated it decreased the timing up to 40. I'll go check the wires

#6 Plug wire is touching the o2 sensor. Would that affect it?

Yep.... The wire can "arc" as its firing the cylinder and can cause a faulty signal to the o2 sensor.Originally Posted by ABeam

Ok, It kinda makes sense but could that cause up to 40 degrees of timing retard. There has to be something else causing it I would think.

Same problem here with same engine. when the problem started a month ago I but in a new cat, both ox. sensors, all new plugs & wires, and new injectors just today. I dropped the fuel tank and cleaned out some rust w/ acid. I inspected and cleaned the fuel pump at the same time (its one year old). Nothing looke melted. When engine warms up, it cannot wind out more than 2100 RPM, this decreases until the limit is about 1,200 RPM and max speed at this point is about 15 MPH. Runs fine when cold and wrming up, and idles fine too.

Thats pretty much what my car does to griffin. Could that cat still be clogged in my vacuum gauge is reading normal-around 20? And would it not have power all the time cold or hot if the cat was clogged? thats what I thought but could be wrong

Is it required that I'm rude for you to listen to me? If you'd like I can be a total ahole and while it'll get me plenty of likes, it's not really my preferred style.
I suggested wires on the O2 because I'm a retard and was guessing wildly in the air, definately wasn't experience.
I also said you had KR, because I explainedgoes on and why it does.
So would you rather I write like the above, leave your thread alone or help you solve the issues in a nice manner? Because.. yes... very likely I know the solution. It's just a matter of you answering the right questions for us to solve this and your car will be a happy camper again.

I have answered your questions but I will once again. #4 wire wasn't touching anything but like I said #6 wire was touching the o2. I pulled the wire away from the o2 and still have the same problem. What I don't understand is how I'm getting KR

You mention you scanned timing. How about KR?
What plugs did you put in? Looking for brand and type, for example Bosch double platinum.
What brand of wires?
Which..is about the most common issue in our cars.
