Might as well put on headers, rockers, and HV3. If its not good enough, sell the HV3 and go with the top-swap.
Best to go down this road with your own tuner.

Idk you would probablly get like 180-190... I got over 2 grand into my n/a just power wise and I doubt I even make 200 at the wheels... Don't get irritated when people go top swap because you will get to the point I'm at and be kicking yourself... Had I spent that 2 grand on a top swap in ic or maybe a turbo I could be close to 300 at the wheels
^^Never works that way...
so x2.
You'll probably need headers just to run the stock pulley....
turbo your car and it will stomp your buddies gtp's so hard that they will be forced to have a sex change because their penis envy is so great.
To be perfectly honest, you're looking at a top whp of maybe 180. It is seriously difficult to make NA 3800's make ANY power. I went the NA route for awhile and ended up putting down 222whp, and even though I never raced it after I hit that mark, I still doubt that my Monte would have run a 13 second 1/4.
If you want to hit 190whp without doing a cam, you will have to at LEAST raise your compression or p&p your heads. If you want to do that, then have your heads p&p and milled at the same time.
Coming from a guy who tried VERY hard to make power NA, I highly recommend either doing a top swap, turbo, or some other form of forced induction (like my CSC).
Oh, and one more thing, you can't do rockers AND a cam. It's one or the other with our engines.
you're right zipper. There are some people though who have made it to even 200whp N/A without cam.Of course that was nearly every mod in the book(intake,hv3,rockers,plog/downpipe/ported rear, ported tb etc) but yes in order to make ideal power and additional for that matter is forced induction.
I'd like to see dyno sheets to a non-cammed N/A 3800 making over 200 FWHP
I've never seen ANY non-cammed NA 3800 make 200whp or more. I'm sorry if I shouldn't say it, but Clubgp has a good list of dyno numbers (although I know it's not perfect), and the HIGHEST non-cammed 3800 was christophero1973's which made 193whp. That's not a lot of power at all, especially if you want to be comparable with GTP's. An L67 will make 193whp easily stock and will have a LOT more torque then what christophero1973's made, or any other NA L36 can make at that power level.
^^Exactly...
ZZP's stupid N/A drag car had ignorant amounts of money in it...and had very high compression as well with a seriously high stall/gear built trans. I think it went 12's at best. When honestly you can bolt on an IC, Injectors, Pulley, TB, Headers...and tune a GTP and run with it...for THOUSANDS less.
oh hey zipper. stickit2damanleosis.
i was just getting ready to rant up and down this forum about how awesome your monte was before you went procharger. but if i recall, you were running TOG headers, GT2 cam, etc, etc.
and zzp's NA drag car was a 4.1 stroker.... so unless you wanna swap out your bottom end for the + 20 lbft torque, its not worth it.
fastest NA 3.8 was in the 11's and was expensive.
I dont have the dyno sheet but some dude i know made 203whp and 199wtq on his GT with the following mods;K&N aircharger, hvtb, hv3, ported exhaust manis, slp catback, meizere? wp pulley, zzp 1.0pcm, plugs n wires,2.5in downpipe,ER rockers.Id say thats all good for 200whp at least. But like i said thats every N/A mod in the book besides heads, cam and spray.
My buddy put down 204 FWHP and his car was tuned by one of the best in the business...
His list consisted of...
4" HAI
GT2 Cam/90lb. springs & retainers
Ported L67 TB
L67 Injectors
Ported LIM
Ported Manifolds
3" Catless DP into a 3" Custom Single outlet (it was a 3800 SE)
Custom Tuned by HP Tuners/Area47
180*
Poly Mounts and some other sh1t.
