Ok so I'm driving home from work and I go to pass someone and from 50 to about 70 and let off the gas and I look down to see my temp gauge go up alittle and back down after a few seconds.I don't think this is normal so I check coolant levels and it looked fine to me. I get the low coolant light on when I first start the car for 3 or 4 seconds and I've put about half a bottle in and the level has seem to stayed. I checked the oil and nothing looks out of place. I'm going to get the car scanned tomorow to see if anything pops up but what should I look for? The car is due for an oil change anyway. Ideas?

lol I wouldnt worry about it, to be clear we are talking like a line, maybe 2 and not 1/4 of the gauge correct?

Yea it's right under the first big line then I give it gas and then it goes up to right past the big line so nothing huge and it comes right back down. Usually under heavier acceleration

You mentioned that the coolant is disappearing and that you have a low coolant light. Wouldn't that tip you off that you are low on coolant? And the amount of movment you have is not normal. How many times did you say you have you added coolant?

I don't think I said the coolant was going anywhere. The light came on but went off after a few seconds and only does it when I first start the car. Not when all the lights turn on normally. I check the fluid and it doesn't seem to be going anywhere and the level is pretty consistant. I've only added coolant one time and that was roughly about 3-4 weeks ago

You can't go by that idiot light, the coolant level sensor is a known issue on these cars. They either don't work or work intermittently, pulling it and cleaning it or installing a new one is your best bet or just unplug it like others have.

"Now that's the weird part the light came on the other day so I put a half bottle in and refilled the overflow. The light only comes on for a few seconds and goes away but I check the level every time and only comes on when I first start the car"

half lf a gallon of coolant and filling the overflow, but it's not low and it's not going anywhere.

Didn't say it was low or that it needed it i just put some in there thinking that it needed it. But haven't had the light come on in about a week and it still goes up alittle. Someone said that maybe a week hose might be resricting flow?

But you stated that you put in half a gallon "Half a bottle", and you refilled the overflow. How would you be able to put in half a gallon into the radiator if it wasn't low? That quote was directly from your facebook post. I am the "Idiot" that gave you the things to check like the coolant elbows, LIM, overflow and so on related to the cooling system. The other guy mentioned that the lower radiator hose being weak and old could suck in and cause a restriction and I have seen this happen on other cars, especially older V8's with the spring inside that usually ends up falling apart and ending in the waterpump intake. You would see the hose collapse when the engine was warm enough that the thermostat was open and you revved the engine. People can only go on what you tell them and if you miss-worded your answer then we don't know we can't see it and we weren't there. You are our eyes and ears when troubleshooting over the internet.

So if it's not low then look into that lower hose it should be firm and difficult to squeeze.

    Jeff
