I have an 06 and just replaced the crank sensor, and now I have a serious top end noise as if a valve or two are bent. It has oil, just changed it Friday. I'm at a loss. Please help!

    Post a video.

It's pretty much impossible for the motor to jump time through just doing a sensor replacement, so I doubt you bent a valve.

I'm fixing to record it, but as I was loosening the bolt for the crank pulley the pulley spun since I'm a poor bastard and don't have an impact. Is it possible that they can be bent from that? I don't know Pontiac, I'm a VW and Ford guy.

Nope, there is a timing chain behind the front cover that goes around the crank gear and cam gear. Both gears have timing dots, you could never make it jump timing from removal of the balancer.

Hmm, it's not top end because valvetrain would make noise at half the speed of the crank.

Sounds like something on the pulleys, maybe take the wheel off and see if you can hear the sound by the crank pulley. Only guessing but maybe something go bent on the back side of the balancer.

And a side note my last name is Feucht too, pretty rare last name to see in the states.

OK I'll check it out tomorrow and let you know. Gotta work at 5... And that is pretty weird with the last name. Are you from Ohio by chance?

I am not, lived in minnesota all my life.

Can't tell you how many people can't say it right, but that's almost a given with how it's spelled.

Feist = Feucht, atleast how we say it.

What was the condition of the balancer? If the rubber is cracked it can make noise.

OK sorry for the delay. The rubber is fine, but the key is all sorts of jacked up. So obviously I didn't pay attention that it was there. Anyway, I got a new key but now I can't get the old one out. Any ideas?

May be able to tap it out of the groove in the crank. Try and get under it with something small and pop it loose. Just don't gouge the crank or get into the crank seal. I had a feeling this was going to be another messed up woodruff key. Make sure the keyway in the balancer and the crank and free of burrs once you get everything apart. Then to reinstall just make sure it's lined up and push it on by hand, then tighten it up.
