Buy a new one if it's leaking.
Or you have bigger issue's if pressure is pushing coolant out.

so the tank over flows? mine used to do that. blue devil stopped it, that engine later blew up, new engine, no longer happens.
and my head gaskets looked ok when i pulled the heads off.
id start with a new rad cap tho, they tend to fail with age.

I took the over flow tank out so it's just the over flow tube hanging to the ground

well a durrr, put it back in now. thats what a over flow tanks does, takes coolant as the car gets hot and pushes it into the "over flow tank" hence the name. as the engine cools it sucks the coolant back in. why theres a hot and cold line on the tank.

I already plugged up the overflow hole with aluminium foil but I'll put my overflow tank back on when I get home

OK so I tried to keep all of the coolant inside my radiator by plugging up the overflow hole but my car still overheated and died on me. So should I change the Thermostat?

how low is the coolant in the rad? is been pissing out for how long now?
if its full try a t stat, make sure the fans work, temp sensors go bad.

you got leg work to do then. put the tank back on, hook it up, fill it to the cold line, fill the rad, check the fans are working. and bleed the t stat for air.

was the coolant right to the edge of the lim, or dry in the hole?
was it a drilled t stat you put in? if it is drilled just top off the coolant and drive it and check the rad level the next few mornings and top off if need be. the drilled hole in the t stat lets the air out for ya.

What do you mean by drilled I just put the new thermostat in and bolted it back on

means its got a small hole in the plate. some come this way, and if not, you can drill your own hole.

near where? could be two things, rusted freeze plug, or one of the heater hoses is leaking.
