So my tranny in my 01 GT has 4th gear out and the fluid is very brown/black. It shifts fine but i want 4th and I know its not gonna last forever with the crap fluid and i dont wanna change it and risk it starting to slip.
I want to get an HD tranny from the junkyard and rebuild it. So my first question is what cars to avoid and are there any years that have bad bad parts? Obviously I want the one with the lowest miles I can find so the hard parts are less worn. Probably out of a buick if i can find one. Normally buick owners are nice to thier cars. Lol
Next question is what special tools i will need?
I know i'll need a clutch compressor, a seal puller, and caliper to measure parts
Do I need a special tool to pull the clutch housings out of the tranny case?
Thanks for any help.
NOTE: I Know i will have to have a tune done for the gear change going from the 3.29's to 2.93's. The reason I am going with an HD tranny is for the gear ratio. As long as i'm going to swap my tranny i may as well get a gear ratio that will give me better mileage as my car is a DD and not a racecar.
