Hey guys, I don't plan on this happening til it warms up, but it's time to start part collecting, learning more, etc. My car has 231k on the clock, and I have basically replaced damn near everything, sway bars, struts, endlinks, engine, wheel bearings, all kinds of stuff. One main problem with my car right now is the TCC solenoid. For now, I have the wire disconnected from the PCM, and it acts fine, but I know it's not good for the transmission for a prolonged period of time (although I do have a cooler on it and monitor the temperature). I'm up in the air on fixing this transmission or picking up a JY (as low mileage as I can find) transmission, dropping a few upgrades into it (nothing major: shift kit, a few other things), put my differential on it then swapping it into my car. Other than the TCC solenoid, my current transmission performs flawlessly, and I have no idea if it has every been replaced before. I did install the shift kit when the engine was out, and the fluid was dark, but there wasn't THAT much friction material in it. Anyways, just wondering what you guys thought would be the better idea. My local U pull it JY has the transmissions for $90...

If it's original at 231k you never know when it could go out. Changing the solenoid is a lot easier than swapping the trans (obviously). You could change it and never have another problem with the trans, or you could change it and a week later have something completely unrelated fail. Just depends on how you like to gamble I guess. I assume the JY trans would be lower miles? Even still problems can occur much before your mileage.

Yea, that's kinda how I feel. I have no clue if the transmission was replaced before I got it, and i have to drive it 2600 miles round trip in June...so that's also something in the gamble. I don't drive it hard very often, even when I do drive it hard, I don't really beat the hell out of it. My temperature never goes about 172, since the cooler that is.

Other than the TCC issue (which is bypassed right now), it drives and shifts perfectly. Not a single problem at all, nice firm, crisp, and fast shifts.
