Do you have 3rd if you drive it normal?
yeah mine shifted from 1 to 2 like a champ and just screamed, no 3 rd, if i let off it would catch 4 th at around 45 mph.( o/d) and hold tight. and run at 75+ mph no problem at 1800 rmps or so, like it should. but no 3 rd kills you around town.
Maybe a solinoid problem then?
You guys can pray all you want, it's not a soleniod issue.
Take a look at the trans info/links thread I posted a while back and you'll see that first, second and fourth use the soleniods. Third gear uses no soleniods. The basics are if three of your gears work, that's covering all combinations of on and off for both soleniods, which means when you get to third that doesn't use either soleniod, it should work find because the other three gears do test for both on and off of both soleniods. Hence...this most likely isn't a soleniod issue. Sorrrrrry.
It is possible there is too much torque/power for the gear to grab and that's why you are bouncing off the limiter. The third gear clutches probably take the most abuse/wear of any clutches in our transmissions.
Not sure where you are located, maybe you could do a "Scottydoggs" and fix it quick and easy.
Technically, yes they should. They should be able to test drive it and watch it on a scanner or manually control it. That would allow them to see it engage or not engage 3rd during normal driving and then spirited driving.
A trans shop buddy of mine, suggested I build a box to manually control a trans I was diagnosing. Works great besides pissing the pcm off. It allowed me to control the trans seperately, but the down side is..you can't see what is actually going on. My HPT allows me to select the gear etc and watch the calculated ratio etc to see what's going on.
Anytime..I've been through my share of issues and through friendly help have learned and can help out.
