So I hope to be above 300 whp with this engine I'm putting together. I'm going to have my trans " freshened up" what should I look into upgrading while its apart. Already bought the transgo kit and going to get a 4th gear shaft. I just can't justify dumping $1900 into a trans for this car. Please tell me it's doable for less.

At 300WHP you are going to want an input shaft. I'd suggest a 300M or Intense Turbine shaft. A 7/8 chain set is nice to have, although the V8 dual chains should do well around 300hp.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I would get a shift kit, mine will chirp second gear now with one. I would rebuild the tranny, the 4th gear splined shaft will need replaced. My car is an 03 but still had worn splines. Dave at tripleedgeperformance seemed to think it was make before all of them were hardened.

hardened IS for Sure, dont even mess with the 4340, Go with the Intense IS, that is what TEP Recommends.
