i love por15 too and por20 also(header paint) really really not cheap.

people i talk to like to sandblast down to baremetal and then coat with por15, which then it peels off over time, it needs rusty metal to bond too. otherwise awsome product

Not cheap but it spreads very well so you can take a relatively small amount and make it go far so it's well worth the initial price IMO. I did my whole frame and underside of the truck about 4 years ago now and it still looks like the say I coated it.

Prior to putting it on I did knock off the loose rust and other "top coat" of rust but definitely did NOT sand blast it clean prior to applying Por15

I have a question about the POR15..you say it needs some rust to hold onto. What if I am patching a spot on my car? Wouldn't it just spread if you don't sand away the rust? Or is this product not ideal for rust on the body of a car?

its not for finished work, like a shinny paint job.

its more for stuff you never see but it rusts, so you paint it with por, like frames under carriages, oil pans and so on.

if you have rust on the outer body aka paint, your going to want to take the regular steps to fix rust.
