No write-up needed. Disassemble the switch, desolder the bulb, solder in the LED and resistor (use the formula I posted earlier in this thread to decide what resistor to use). Just make sure you use 14.4v as you voltage in the formula not 12v (since the system is at 14.4v when the engine is running and you don't want to over drive and burn out your LEDs).

Consult a service manual with wiring diagrams to decide the polarity of the LED. I used 3mm 13000+mcd LEDs.

I did this on my old Lumina and changed all the bulbs to green in the dash/hvac... this site here: www.autolumination.com Tail Light Brake Light Turn Signal LED Bulbs sells the correct wedge bulbs to just swap out, and the 194bulbs, and PC-194 bases to stick 'em in (for the dash) so you don't hafta solder anything... VERY simple to do... if I had pictures still I'd post up, but it's real easy, with nice results.

I doubt that will work. Unless the GP is very different from the Impala in that respect. All of the bulbs in the dash and switches are soldered in. There are no wedge bulbs or any really end-user serviceable bulbs at all. That's why this is a popular mod because if the factory bulbs burn out you have to solder anyway.

Yeah, GM loves to tint the overlays to get the right color. They used yellowish bulbs behind a blue overlay to achieve the Impala/Monte factory colors.

If you took white LEDs/bulbs and stuck them behind the factory cluster it would glow blue. Even though I have a new overlay, I still have white LEDs behind it and it still glows blue. The red warning areas and red needles look GREAT that way.

that is freakin sweet, thats what I want the whole dash and buttons on my car to look like. So I just need to replace all the factory leds with white ones and I'll get that same effect?

What would I have to do to change the needles to glow like white or some other color

According to archemedes your factory overlay is tinted reddish/orange so you need a new overlay that will allow for these colors.

With respect, is that the same scenario for the gauge cluster and the hvac lights?

On the lumina (I assume it can't be TOO different for many cars) it called for 6 PC-194 quarter-turn bulbs (a 194 with a base that it sat into, which kinda screwed so to speak into the circuit board) and the HVAC bulbs were... 37's? Two to be exact... I never looked at the door switches or anything. Sorry if I caused some confusion. Autolumination.com DOES sell some really cheap pre-resisted LED's as well though.

In regards to the question about changing the needle colors... I would think you'd need replacement needles for that.

That's what I was referring to when I said "bulbs in the dash" meaning the gauge cluster and the HVAC.

The factory 00-05 Impala/Monte radio, gauges, and HVAC controls use thin wheat style incandescent bulbs soldered to the PCB.

The resistor you use depends on what LED you use (see the Ohm's law formula I posted previously in this thread). Resistors are required for any LEDs that don't have a built in resistor.
