you have to cut them apart and then epoxy them back together if you want to do that. ive done it. it is a lot of work.

but you cannot take the black 'stripes' off the tail light. you can only break the reflectors out of it so they are cleared instead of being red.

I know people bake the stock headlights in the oven at around 200* for a few minutes to take them apart but I'm not sure if you can bake the tails to get them apart...I can search for the link on headlight baking if you are interested and want to try that

How did you get them apart?
    Did you use a Dremel?

I have never removed mine but it can't be that hard. I'm sure just a few screws to remove.

yeah, i just used a small dremel bit. i then had to epoxy them back together once i got all of the reflector out. there is a certain area you want to cut out, there is actually a really good thread on clubgp that i followed. id search there. the clear tails were cool, but i like them tinted more.

you take them off the car with a few butterfly nuts from the trunk. move the trunk liner and youll see what im talking about.

I attemped a few ways to do this with a spare tail I had and it is difficult. I agree the only way is to cut it apart. I saw another thread where someone broke the reflective part up with a screwdriver and hammer.

If you want to run cleared tails without tinting them, then you'll need to cut open the back. If you want to clear them and then tint them you can use the hammer, screwdriver and dykes. The hammer, screwdriver and dykes method leaves a little red lens left that you can't get to, but you can't notice it once it is tinted. Also when doing the hammer, screwdriver and dykes method don't attempt to remove the white lens for the backup light, it is too thick to break and even thicker you can't cut it with dykes.

Her is a pic of some tails i cleared with hammer and had lightly tinted.
