    I recently got some hella optilux angel eyes and modded them and some spare fog brackets to fit correctly. I tried the fog relay mod by clipping off pin 85 from relay 17 and soldering a wire to it and pin 86 on relay 11. I also performed the drl disable mod (I am getting hid projectors from classy's retrofits soon) but after I did the soldering I had no fogs. I swapped another relay to test and got fogs back with low beams. Tried testing stuff with a multi meter and could not figure out why it didn't work. Any idea what I did wrong? Is there a better way to accomplish the mod? I gotta look for another relay now that I clipped the terminal off on mine.

    Here are the instructions I followed...

    2001 Pontiac Grand Prix.
    Method 1:
    Remove access panel from driver's side dashboard. Unplug 2-wire harness from DRL diode module (shrouded by an aluminum heatsink). Tape up unused connector to prevent shorts and replace access cover. DONE.

    Method 2:
    Disabling the DRLs on a GTP( and presumably on other '01 GPs) is simplicity defined! This should not take you more then 15 minutes.


    1. Remove the dash bolster then look under the left side of the dash and you will see two modules. The one you want is the smaller of the two and is closest to you as you are looking at it.
    2. Remove the connectors then remove the module by pushing up and out of the bracket,
    3. Carefully bend back the locking tabs and slide the circut board out of the case
    4. You will see three (3) relays on the board. Your interested in the CENTER RELAY. You will need a piece of plastic from one of those clear plastic packages that they seem to put everything from auto parts to toothbrushes in these days .
    5. Cut a piece aprox. 3/4 inch long and bend a little leg on the end. With the leg you just bent in you fingers, slide the plastic between the contact points of the center relay so they can't meet
    6. Put everything back together in the reverse order that you used to take it out

    What you have now is absolutly no DRLs during the day and still have "AUTO ON" at night. Everything else like the parking brake indicator works just as it should.

    I did the same and it works like a champ.

    I bent the pin and used crimp connectors (me and soldering don't get along to well). Maybe you cooked the first relay when you soldered? Try testing it.

    Some years of cars react differently to some methods of disabling the DRL's. Here is how I did mine....

    How did you connect to the relay pin that doesn't get bent/cut?

    I was hoping you wouldn't ask. LOL

    I stripped the wire, inserted it into the female plug, then re-installed relay. Not the best method, but it works and hasn't failed me yet. <knock on wood>

    Another method would be to find the wire in behind the fuse block and tap into it.
