He could of had at least 700 more pounds then you in his ss. 3 people around 200 each then maybe he had some heavy ass speakers in the trunk like me

Yea he could of but i think it was an SS because if it was the LTZ I shoulda pulled on him little by little from the start right? Since it was rated at 240hp from what the 1 guy said an dont the new impalas way a lil more than these model GPS? Plus there was 4 ppl compared to 1. For some reason to me my car performs better at higher speeds, almost every single race i get into the other car always gets the jump on me or we are right next to each other until after 55mph or higher thats when my car starts to pull slowly on em.
Wanna race? I'd like to see you pull away from me.![]()
Back in '98 I took my then new '98 G.P. G.T. with all 195 h.p. to the track(Atco Raceway,N.J.) I had slightly shorter tires on it than the stockers and ran a best e.t. of 15.47 (with stock rims & tires it went a 15.61). I also owned a brand new '07 Monte Carlo SS with the same 5.3 303 h.p. as the Impala. Ran it bone stock at the same track for a best of 13.99. Hope this helps to put things into perspective.
Steve
Neither are $600 GTP's that don't look nice.
dont 5.3 cars stop at 130 mph? heard bf tell me he was suprised when he raced a mcss impala ss and a gxp gp, he said he had them after 50 mph but they had him by a 1/2 fender.
he wasnt in his pontiac he was in his caddy lol. my gtp seems fast up top on cold days lol, but dont think i can beat a 5.3 car yet.
Yea i know that stats of the LS4 cars THATS y im surprised i actually beat it... Maybe he was just playin around with me but if that was the case i dnt think he would want to lose at the end. It was a long race so it wasnt like he didnt have time to catch up plus i assumed what was going to happen was the further we went the more he was going to pass me but it actually went the other way around i started to pass him slowly the further we raced. An at boost ill race u even tho i know u a smoke my a$$ jus for kicks lol I was about to race a aston martin vanquish crusin down the street but the guy had came up on his turn... that would of been humiliating.....
"dont 5.3 cars stop at 130 mph? "
Not sure if the Impalas and Monte Carlo SSs are electronically limited to the same top end speed ( probably are), but I had my Monte up to an indicated 136 m.p.h. I believe they were limited to 140 m.p.h.
My goal with the '98 GTP I have is to at least equal the performance of my '07 Monte as far as engine output along with 1/4 mile performance. The car MUST be able to pass PA inspection and be 100% reliable though.
I'd love to know what the factory limited top speed is of the '97-'03 GTPs . Anyone know? I'm looking for a STOCK base line figure.
126 or something like that...go start another thread...don't hijack this one.
Which cars are the fastest with the LS4 motors? Project GTP u said u ran your SS in the 1/4 mile at 13.99 One of my friends has a grand prix gxp with a cold air intake an flowmaster exhaust and he said the fastest he ever ran it in the 1/4 was right around 14 secs flat. But then again he has 2 12's in his trunk. I assumed the gxps were the quickest but i could be wrong. Maybe the guy with the SS didnt want to hit full throttle because he was in the lane close to the curb an i dnt know how anyone elses roads are where theyre from but up here the right lanes always more bumpy than the left lane. He probably didnt wanna chance losin control at higher speeds but at the same time didnt want to accept a lost so he kept racing but not steppin on it....
gxp suspension is a tad better than the chevys. and i seen on another forum when the gxp is used in slap stick it was getting better times than the 5.7 hemis they held the gear until the end of the track to get better times(said impala would still shift out). but i think i'd rather have a l67 for the sake of mpg and performance availability. 5.3 is cool to though its all gm so i like em all.
Actually, I was the one that ran my then brand new '98 Grand Prix GT ( 195 h.p.) at Atco Raceway in New Jersey.I keep the best time slip with the pic taken of me (in the G.P. at the line) by the track's photographer, I'll dig it out, have my wife scan it, and post it here.I did go a bit quicker than absolutely bone stock when I ran the car with 15 inch wheels with tires that (I believe) were about 1 inch shorter. Trap speeds were generally in the 85-87 m.p.h. zone. Slowest was...85.50 m.p.h., the fastest time slip I found was...87.28 m.p.h. E.T.s were generally in the 15.8-15.6 range with stock wheels & tires. I ran the car 14 times spanning three separate days racing at the track.
My 2007 Monte Carlo SS was bought brand new and was raced ALL stock. Even with the traction control on it still spun a bit off the line. It was a very difficult car to drag race with 303 h.p. and front drive. I had to ease it off the line then about 30-40 feet out nail it. Only squeeked 1 time into the 13s with a quickest of 13.992 @98.14 m.p.h. My 60ft was 2.126. The Monte's best trap speed was when I ran a 14.259 @ 99.30 m.p.h.
I know this doesn't really make sense with the stats but my friend drove a SS with the v8 and wasn't really impressed with the power he said they were quick but not like he thought it would especially up top, so I don't know im still thinking weight was the reason / just my 2 cents
Test drove a GXP when they first came out. Pretty quick, but nothing too grand. That being said, ungodly fast compared to a GT haha
^^no kidding.
the LS4's intake was a LOT of fail.
