Well got the shot. Feels like some punched me as hard as they could right in the top of my ass cheek. Waiting to get rx filled now.
I guess I got lucky with my shot. Got it in the right arm. Although she did manage to hit my tricep muscle which felt oh so good.
Steroid shots suck. I got one in my eye lid. Once. Never again. Never wanted to punch a Dr as much as I did that day. Well, I've never wanted to puch a Dr, UNTIL that day.
I had Poison Ivy a little while ago: I must have run through a big patch of it with the push mower the Friday before Memorial Day weekend. I got a really bad rash that had spots all along my legs, a fair amount of my torso, and along my arms. That rash itched so hard I wanted to tear out the rashes with my fingernails. Found out later that a REALLY hot shower every now and then would dull the itching so I could actually sleep in the middle of the night. Then I found out about Tecnu, got some of it, and probably did 5-6 applications of it all over my body within two days. Then I found some rash relief from Tec-labs and used that until we got to MI to hang with the family over the next weekend. Thankfully, my itching had died down considerably by then. All I wanted while the itching was at its worst was for all poison ivy, oak, and sumac to just DIE.
I've had the misfortune of bad contact with poison ivy. It was at my school toward end of summer I was collecting leaves and I saw some hanging branches of what I thought were elm tree, very bright red and beautiful.'
Except those were poison ivy vines that do look similar to elm and vines can be hanging sideway like typical tree branches. I spent a week home because it was bad and when I told the school where it was, the whole area had been ripped clean the next day. Like they used a bulldozer to exterminate the vines. It was just a few branches, probably from one vine in the ground.
Well, I wish I wouldn't have been so stubborn and just went and spent the money and got the shot as soon as I started getting bad. The swelling around my eyes is all but gone. My hands are almost cleared up completely. The area on my neck and chest are about 90% better, The spot on the inside of my elbow is about 75%.
With the prednisone regimen and washing with technu as well as oatmeal soap I should hopefully be completely clear by the middle of the week.
Ouch that sucks, so when you guys get poison ivy, oak or Sumac it takes weeks to heal?
Jeff
It all depends on how fast I catch it, and after that how bad it gets. I had a small patch on my arm around the end of April, but I caught it early and killed it quick with bleach treatment before it spread.
I think what got me this time is I was itching, but no rash was showing so I attributed it to other possibilities, then the rashes started showing up all at once in various parts and continued to spread.
Well get better soon. I didn't know it could spread like that.

Holy ****, I didn't realize there was a thread going on about this. I also was around poison ivy, at least I believe that's what is was. I was cutting down a tree in the back yard as well as all the other plants and vines around it, and I wore long sleeves, and long pants and gloves. Well, this genius (me) did not wear gloves that cover the wrist area and the long sleeved shirt was the kind without elastic. So, I got the urushiol on me pretty good. That was over 3 weeks ago, and the area on my arms is still red.
Even though I took all these precautions, I still showed afterwards and lathered my arm, legs and face with Fels-napha soap (can be purchased at Wallymart) I even rubbed the area with rubbing alcohol. I still got the itch.
So, you can understand how I am taking an interest in this topic.
ALSO, LEARN A LESSON FROM ME: If you use Zanfel on the affected areas, rub it on very lightly. I must have rubbed it in too hard, and the skin broke in the affected areas. The area oozed with puss for days afterwards. Then there was the horrible scabs that formed. Thank God I only had the itch in 2 areas.
Thanks for all the advice!
And to think I was *****ing about how mosquitoes seek me out and I get huge welts and they itch for days and all that, but I'll just leave well enough alone. This sounds a thousand times worse, at least it's only a few days. Must be that Mexican blood.

I was just out in the yard investigating and it looks like I have random poison ivy sprouting up in the yard. That means when I mow I am going to have to be extra careful, and shower as soon as I am done.
I have a weed and grass killer spray. I need to look at it and see if it works on poison. If not I will probably go buy something. I'm putting off mowing until I am almost 100% clear anyway so as to avoid sweating and possibly spreading it again.
I have used weed and grass killer, works great. Still have to pull the vine out though......
