So, in the process of modding, I discovered that the intake gasket was bad and cost me a chipped piston. I'm really OK with it because I wanted to build a motor/tranny eventually anyway. I contacted one of the 'BIG" 3800 shops (really don't think it's right to trash someone on an open forum) with the intention of spending some pretty serious money. When I called, a recording told me to e-mail for fastest response...so I did and got a call a few days later. We visited about what I was looking for and that I was willing to ship my car across the country to have everything tuned in car. He said he'd put together some numbers and get right back to me...that was about a month ago. I really expected better...

Does anyone have any suggestions for a shop that specializes in 3800 stuff and actually builds motors? My interest lies in intercooled, Gen 5, low-mid 11 GTP coupe.

    solution.

Buy a new (used) short block and drop it in.

Your going to spend more than triple the money to have your motor completely rebuilt.

Stock bottem end will last forever if you mod correctly.

If you don't want to do the work yourself check intense racing or just a local speed shop

What exactly are you looking for in a built 3800? You know the fastest 3800s have been run on stock block (with cam) cars right?

3800s have oil pressure problems, its a common issue with no known solution. Also driving style plays a part in this.

    Solution requires modifying the block.

    Then assembling properly.
