So I managed to snap my stock sway bar 2 months ago and it took me a good 8 hours to replace it with the redesigned (solid instead of tube) one. Now today I had an oppertunity to get the car high on a lift for once and inspect stuff. Low and behold the new rubber mounts for the sway bar are already cracking and coming apart.... I can't imagion how bad they are gonna get this winter..... instead of getting mad I'll just look at it as a forced excuse to replace with upgraded poly mounts...

buyer beware of the rubber that comes with the after market replacement sway bars.... I would have been better off reusing the stock rubber

Stock front sway bar is hollow (at least on my 01 it was) and so at the point where they crush the ends so you can bolt it up they always crack. I would show you the picture of mine but im still new here and dont have a good place to host my pics.

When I was calling around for prices the dealership mentioned that you should use wd40 so that's what I did..... im assuming you referring to the rubber bushings and not the plastic spacers?

for any suspension bushing i use ruglide or energy suspension grease. i wouldnt wd40 it honestly. since ur going poly bushings (shouldhave done it anyways) get some energy suspension bushings and grease.

any poly bushings will do. i doubt oreilly carries them tho. i bought mine from Energy Suspension Parts Dealer, Specializing in Energy Suspension Bushings Suspension Components.

I just checked and both the local part shops (oreilies and advanced) carry energy suspension and Moog brand performance replacements.... will I feel a difference in any way or are they just better made? I'll be needing them soon judging by what I saw while rotating tires today.

Rubber can tear it if adheres to the bar. Keep this from happening by using a little Technical Bulletin trick that GM used in the early 90's on some cars.



Teflon tape then the grease. It'll help keep them lubricated.

BTW on that 8 hour time. Not sure how you achieved that, well done. Longest sway swap ever.

Tricks to help you.
Lower the rear of your subframe 2 inches for room to get into the bolts. You'll be done in 45 minutes.

Gotta give me credit i did manage to fit it in with a large aftermarket downpipe in the way and not dropping the subframe.... ill stick to engine work. I changed a lower intake gasket in 3 hours the last time i did it.

When you get to two hours or less, lemme know. Til then, I suggest you lower the sub a litle. I've done all these things the hard way too. It's simply not worth the struggle.

WD40 swells the rubber so I wouldn't use it for this application. I like Bill's teflon tape idea.

I'll certainly be buying a fresh roll of tape along side the new rubbers
