    You were lucky or else the shaft was somehow worn, first time I had the rack off the Regal, I was by myself so I had one hand gripping the steering column shaft and the other holding the steering rack up. I was at it for hours till I got really mad and turned into the Hulk, lol. It went right on then. The damn thing just wouldn't line up. They left hardly any space in there for your hands when trying to align the shafts. Now I have my girl turn the steering wheel. Much easier.

    i eye balled up my old rack and the new one making sure i got the racks nub the same way as the old one, all it took was the little wiggle on the wheel and it slid on. i took my shaft off before i dropped the cradle too, dont know if that helped me or not, when i jacked the cradle back up the shaft was waiting for the rack lol

    GS98...I'm not sure how..but somehow..I'm sure that's the hard way.

    I've only had one pull out when doing work on a car and that was a very loose one that wouldn't hold up a fly. Slid right back in when aligned properly. Sounds like you have a good girlfriend... at the time I didnt.
    I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    I think I had the rack down because it was one of the time's I had the transmission side cover off so I needed the subframe down quite a bit. I was living in an apartment complex so I couldn't be out there with a cherry picker lol. So I had to do it with a couple jacks. The times I had the rack off, I had it unbolted from the subframe first. I remember it wasn't only getting the shafts turned in the right way, but they also had to be perfectly straight with each other. Hard to explain. Best I can compare it to is when putting the crank pullley (harmonic balancer) on, you have to line up the keyway first (that was the easy part of the rack). The hard part was making sure the harmonic ballancer went on straight (this is just for comparison, putting the harmonic balancer on this engine is usually pretty easy). And yeah, she's a good help at times, sometimes she can be stubborn.

    Yes, you have to have the angle correct and the shafts have to align...there's a bunch of angles/alignments and no room to see it, plus there's a set screw in the way.

    On the HB ... uh..
    I slap it up on the crank, then push and turn until it engages on the keyway and slides on a little further. That way you are 10000000% sure it's correct before torquing.
