Ok so I don't know if any of you know but I deliver pizza for a living (first job) in my car... I've been doing it for about three years or so, so I've pretty much learned how to deal with most situations... today was different...

I was taking 3 deliveries, but in the midst of taking the 3 deliveries i got sidetracked and ended up being about 10min behind schedule. after dropping the third one off i RUSH back to the store and quickly start getting out of my car. i get one foot out the door and the car starts rolling away, i put it in reverse and back it up the two feet that it moved, thought i put it in park. go inside, grab the next two deliveries, come outside and my car is gone... gone. i hear people yelling and i walk farther out and see 2 or 3 cars pulled to the side of the road and my cars headlights staring at me from IN THE WOODS ACROSS THE STREET ON THE BUSIEST ROAD IN MY TOWN. turns out, i did not manage to put the car in park as i had thought but in between gears, it popped back into reverse and put it self in the woods... but here's the mind numbing part... the parking lot of the pizzeria had about 5-6 cars in it and berkshire valley was still VERY busy from the rush hour traffic... my car managed to guide itself THROUGH a parking lot FULL of cars and Across the busiest road in jefferson into the woods... Her injuries include: a small bend in the rear quarter panel, some scratches, and a broken left tail light.

Damn thats rough. At least your car only had minor injuries compared to what could have happened. Half full man, half full.

I hope that job pays well to have you rushing around so much that you fail to put the car in park before getting out. I'm used to driving my Z28 around, so I usually put the parking brake on out of habit. lol

Glad to hear the damage is minor, hope you get it fixed soon!

My friend did this once at the school parking lot (way back in the day), it popped back into D and he ended up pulling a Big foot in his truck and crushing a car.

Would have loved to see that one.... how do you explain that?

To the OP, sorry, that really sux but like said earlier, could have been very fortunate. Hit up a local JY and pull a good taillight, can get it back up to par for little money besides the dent. That will have to be pulled by a body shop, but could have been crash into another car or some pedestrian so count your blessings that nobody or nothing else was messed up

I was in my friend's dad's tahoe and he jumped out to get something from my dad and left the car in drive, it was heading straight towards the garage where my car was sitting, I was hoping so bad it would nail my car and id get a new one.. My dad ran and jumped in it before anything happened, i was pissed.

i think people that get out of their car with it still running, even for a few minutes, are stupid. you're stupid.

you know how many cars i could have stolen hanging out at the grocery store by my parents house? this is a new day and age, you cannot trust other people EVER.

It's not like I left it in front of a deli or something running, I do agree those people are very stupid indeed. I left it running to go inside and grab more deliveries (which I'm usually inside for quite literally a matter of seconds before I'm back in the car going again) And the door we use is in the back of the building far past where the parking lot ends so we don't really have to worry about anyone stealing anything

Anyways hears the results of my infinite stupidity:

same thing sorta happened to me years ago with my 1977 gmc truck, it had a manual in it and i rarely used the e brake, so me and 2 friends stop in a parking lot to look at a car for sale, and as we are walking around it, i hear some ruckus across the lot,(it was night time) i look up and see a truck rolling through the lot and hitting the raised curb area around the parking lot light pole, and go " HEY!!! look at this asshole... and my friend goes, thats your truck dummy!!!!

im still amazed how close it came to taking out the light pole, but it skated right by, no damage at all to anything, sept for the crap i had to take from everyone i knew.

I'm going to try and fix as much as i can (basically water test the trunk to protect the subwoofer) and prime it. She's going to have to wait 'til I can save up $ to bring her to a body shop But hey, maybe while it's there I might get it two-toned
