The 2010 Cobalt does well in federal government and insurance industry crash tests.
The government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives the sedan and coupe four out of five stars for the driver's safety and five stars for passenger safety in front crashes. In side crash tests, the Cobalt sedan gets three stars for the front seat and five for the rear. The coupe earns four stars for the driver's and rear passengers' protection in side crashes.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the 2010 Cobalt the highest score, "Good," for front-impact crashes, but a lower score of "Acceptable" in side-impact tests. In rear-impact crashes, the four-door Cobalt Sedan receives a rating of "Good" but the two-door Cobalt Coupe receives a rating of only "Acceptable".
