Ah, different worlds man... "better" is subjective... he's SQ oriented, as I'm a groundpounder who likes to shake vision and bother the backs of people's throats and their eardrums.... I understand where the disagreement was.

Lol nah bro, I realize my knowledge wasn't sufficient to provide info equal to all of 1800's links... hell, I had to go above my head to get valid points lol. In any case, I welcomed the debate, and it was all good... until I was belittled... that was bull****. Plain and simple.

Him being a mod doesn't mean anything, and clearly he doesn't know anything about car audio when it comes to dealing with SPL and high powered systems. The OP got the wrong info in the first few posts, especially when someone recommended him a Red Top... That being a good starting battery but terrible for car audio.

Ahh, to everyone wondering if batteries matter or not, the owner of Maxxsonics, who makes Crunch, Hifonics, MBQuart, and Autotek, made a video to answer the debate!

So you rock ear plugs while listening to this system?

Which also means you cannot hear police/amublance or firetruck sirens?

"i like to use 13 V because this is where a deep cycle generally rests"

They generally rest at 12.5 V.

I compete for DbDrag and due to my 3 batteries, I have the option to jump between 3 classes. Keep in mind, every tenth of a voltage counts when doing my runs. Street runs are car off, and Super Street runs are car on.
    Street B- 1 battery, drop to 12.4V, ~142.7db
    Street C- 2 batteries, drop to 12.6V ~143.3db
SuperStreet NW- 3 batteries, 220A alt since car is on now, drop to 13.0V ~144.0db.
So there you have it, with the car being on, my 220A alt didn't make that much of a difference, you need a battery bank to back up the voltage.
The alt was off for the first two tests so your comparison is invalid.

You also didn't reduce the number of batters in super street.

What speed did you run the motor at?

Most alts don't produce full output anywhere near idle.

Do you have an output chart for the alternator you were using?

Mine under the hood rests at 12.94V, my two in the rear rest at 12.82V. Shoot, XS Power's D3100 rests around 13.1-13.2V.

And why are you hating on me for having a loud system?

These voltages are after the battery has been sitting with no load or charge for a number of hours?

There are downsides to having an excessively loud system. Safety appears to be one.

My comparison is valid, with alt on and an extra battery, I only gained .4V. From just 1 battery no alt to 2 batteries no alt, I gained .2V. So say I added the 3rd battery and only gained .2V, that means the alt gained me .2V... just as much as the batteries did.
2000 RPMs on the dot in SuperStreet NW. The alternator produces max amperage around the 1700 RPM range.

Yes, no load or charge for numerous hours. The 2 in the rear sat on the floor in my room for 6 months and were at 12.82V.

Okay, so you're one of those guys I give a demo to and don't like my system cause it's "too loud."

Argue with Maxxsonics more too, you are keeping me entertained. Do you have any world experience like I do with this subject? I'm trying to educate the OP, not make guesses and hope I'm right.

What did just the alternator net you?

What did just the battery net you?

Without testing separately, you cannot be 100% which resulted in the gain you saw.

Nope. I've never dabbled in audio before.
