Hi all. I know the drill and searched the forums first, but could not find something specific to my question.

How do I ID the engine in my 99 Grand Prix?

It was a salvaged car. The plastic cover for the motor that ID's the motor is gone. Nothing on the inside of the door or under the hood that I can see. This is not a super charged model. At least not that I could tell.

    Advice?

    Thanks!

    8th vin digit is a k for the n/a 3800, 1 for supercharged 3800, and L IIRC for the 3100.

Ok, the 8th digit is a 'K'. Therefore my motor is the 3.8. To be clear, the digit in the 8th position denotes 3.1, 3.8 and or supercharged 3.8.

    Go to the trunk.

Look for the service package sticker.

it'll have the vin and the following code "L36" somewhere in it.

THe eigth digit is for the engine. for your year, J is the 3.1, K is the n/A 3.8 and 1 is the s/c 3.8

    Just gonna say...

Pop the hood, if it says 3100 on the intake manifold in large letters...like so.

and if it's got a black plastic intake manifold, then its a 3800, like so...
