so you say to purchase 4ohm speakers? ok. i have looked around and most of the high end speakers these days are doing a 2.3ohm or some thing like that for some reason. but i am getting ready to get some speakers in the next week or so. i just need to find the best sound for my buck!

    thanks

3db really isn't noticed by majority and I would argue that it's better to stay with 4ohm than 2ohm if the difference is just 3db. Then again, majority of people aren't pulling that much power from their amps as their volume typically sits around 100db to 105db when playing "loud" for a 5 or 10min drive. Ear fatigue can play a big role too. If I can find the link there was a gentleman who measured the average his mid received during "cranked" music. I believe it ended up being somewhere around 16 or 20 watts? In that instance, it doesn't matter if you're 2ohm or 4ohm but, long term, 4ohm is better.
Key to reducing fatigue is HEADROOM! so get speakers with high sensitivity and give them all they can handle and more in terms of power.

But for your purposes... get a 4 ohm speaker.

just make sure they have a high sensitivity.

Thats all you'll need to worry about really, that and them being 4 ohm nominal impedence.

92+ is already pretty high so that seems like a decent goal.

ok thats good. so now i guess i need to know what type of cone material i need and surround? i know cheap ones are paper and cheap stuff like that. and better ones are rubber and plastic. but the most expensive ones are a woven glass fiber type stuff with rubber surround. so what all do you think?

    thanks!

Get anything that has a decent brand name and is in your price range.

It'll make life a lot simpler.

12VoltNews.com today confirmed that Fujitsu Ten Corporation has shut down its retail mobile electronics brand “Eclipse” in the North American market. According to a source within the organization, Fujitsu Ten will remain working with the automotive OEMs but plans to fully phase itself out of aftermarket/retail.
More details to come as this story unfolds.

And Pioneer is finally going to release HU's that have some of the features that the higher up alpines do.

And alpine is moving away from all in one products yet again...

You must purchase the DSP in addition to the high end head units.

    i.e. CDA-9886 + PXA-H100 vs. CDA-9887

this is all very confusing. can any one help me decide what i need to get?

i would like to keep my stock head unit so i dont have to buy an steering adapter.

stock speakers are good but if you turn them up with the bass above -4 on the EQ they sounds like crap.

so i need new speakers and i want some bass.

but the stock head unit does not push the power after market speakers need. so what to do there?

and i could just buy a sub and amp but a guy told me that the normal door and deck speakers will all be hooked up together so if i want good sub bass i would blow the normal speakers.

so i need some help. i have a small budge but i want good stuff so if it means waiting i will. i just dont know what to get.

    thanks so much!

    Wtf is a normal speaker?

Just get an amp that allows you to apply a high pass filter to the speakers and a low pass for the sub.

You can't get something for nothing. In this case...it's audio. If you want something decent it's like everything else, research. There's no silver platter in this game. Car Audio = trial & error

i would like to keep my stock head unit so i dont have to buy an steering adapter.
Just because of a steering wheel adapter? Maybe I misunderstood? The Alpine 9887 is probably the best bang for buck if you ever decide you'd like to grow into the hobby. Otherwise, grab whatever makes you happy.

stock speakers are good but if you turn them up with the bass above -4 on the EQ they sounds like crap.
Physiscs plays a big role in reproducing sound waves. If the speaker isn't large enough, then how will it appropriately create those giant sound waves our "subs" produce?

so i need new speakers and i want some bass.
If your only goal is to have better bass then no. Keep stock speakers. Get a Line Output Converter to an amp and sub in the trunk.

but the stock head unit does not push the power after market speakers need. so what to do there?
Again, the stock head unit will push speakers fine for your needs. It's easier to upgrade than downgrade.

and i could just buy a sub and amp but a guy told me that the normal door and deck speakers will all be hooked up together so if i want good sub bass i would blow the normal speakers.

That guy is an idiot. Get a second opinion.

Tell us how much money you want to spend. One more thing; if you don't wanna do the research what's the point in asking questions? Questions just lead to more questions. Check out my sig links. Don't be a follower either. Use those links for ideas and inspiration. Some of those kids on DIYMA and GPONA really don't have a clue.

I ran two a/d/s/ 12" subs behind the seat in my standard cab pickup for 7 years. I ran them in stereo and crossed at 180Hz due to running 4" components "lack of room"

Altho since the subs were right behind you, it was always amazing how well it worked. Even with songs with extreme stereo like many Beetles songs.

Not sure how i'm going to get that kind of sound in my 06 grandprix. But one thing is for sure, i've got A LOT more room to work with.
