Few Question about speakers

I am going to be installing some 5 1/4" component speakers in the doors. (2000 btw) First off where is everyone putting the crossover and how are you securing it?

Second what size is the stock tweeters? I've seen 3/4" and 1" both floating around.

Third, if I hook up the stock wiring to the speaker but NOT to the HU will it cause any problems? Thinking if I remove the aftermarker HU and put the stocker back in I want the speakers to work(unhooking them from the amp of course) without taking the door panels back off and hooking them up.

When you open the door on the side of the dash there is a little plastic insert you can pop out. Try putting it in there.

3/4" seems to be the more accurate size. If you're asking that to see if you can fit the original spot, that entirely depends upon the bezel of the tweeter you're replacing it with.

That third idea doesnt seem like it would pan out well... Do you have an aftermarket amp? If not, then hook the stock wiring to the speakers so that your aftermarket HU will power them. If you DO have an aftermarket amp and you want both to be hooked up you will have to disconnect the wiring in the harness else it will be plugged into the HU regardless.

Yea I have an aftermarket amp i'm going to use. I want to hook the stock wiring up at the speakers but keep it UNHOOKED at the HU, then if I need to put the stock HU back in I can just disconnect the aftermarket amp and plug the HU in and have sound without taking the door panel off and hooking the stock wiring backup. (no factory amp btw)

You'd have to cut the speaker wires on the harness that attaches to the HU and make sure they're all covered well so they don't short circuit. Other than that, you should be fine. Just make sure they're secured well and will not short.

On that same note, if you ever decide to switch back to HU power then you'd have to do the same short protection on the speaker wire going to the amp.

both my crossovers are laying in the bottom of my foor wrapped in a plastic bag to protect against moisture and stuffed with some shop rags to help with the vibration of opening and closing the doors , been working fine for 3 years that way , crossovers generally dont produce much heat at all maybe 5 degrees over air temp if at all and i have pioneer 300 watt amps yes plural amps , one bridged per front door , key thing , while you are doing it put some dynamat in and your mid-bass responce in the door is great

My crossovers just sit in the bottom of my doors.. I didn't bag them or anything, they just sit in there.. No issues..

I've got a stock tweeter next to me, and measuring it looks to be 1".

Guys... Passive crossovers...

When you open the door on the side of the dash there is a little plastic insert you can pop out. Try putting it in there.

Anyone ever look in there? If you need to change something, you don't need to take off the door to do it.

And to the guy running 300 watts to a speaker... Show me a youtube video with the volt meter hooked up and an ammeter proving you're pushing 300 watts. If its the 300 watt pioneer i'm thinking about, it puts out 150 RMS at 4 ohms bridged. Better yet, what car speaker (short of some hefty subs) can handle that kind of power without hitting Xmech, aka, the point of destruction for a speaker?

300watts continuously used?!...good grief. Trying to kill people?!

A nice spike to 300 might be good for some mid-bass when playing loud but that's all I could ever really conceive :/

I think my "1000 watt system" might pull 35amps total when turned up? So much for "big 3" and capacitors

I'm running a 60 amp fuse for all my amps, and only with rap songs cranked up to 11 does the voltage drop at all.

I watch my voltage through the DIC(dunno how accurate that might be) and my voltage is dependant on engine RPM

On warm days it doesnt' dip below 13.4...cold days it doesn't go below 14.

I have a 100amp fuse at the battery. I can't remember the fuses at the block but I'd say 60 per amp. The built-in fusing is 90amps for the SAX-100.4 and 60amps for TXA-3002.

I put in my own voltmeter, and I find about the same readings.

I'm going to try and find someplace in the dash for the crossovers so I don't have to rip the door panel off to mess with it. I have my carpet ripped out now due to the gasket issue under the windshield, had water in my front and back so I figured I'd rip the carpet out and let it air dry.

those plastic caps on the side of the dash when you open the doors!
