I'm looking into getting some new tires for my 1997 pontiac grand prix GT. The tires on here are 225/60/r17 but I wanna see if I can go taller and wider. Any suggestions on how tall and wide I can go without rubbing on the wheel well, or hitting the frame when fully turned. Also, tire brand and model recommendations would be much appreciated. Im looking at getting some Yokohama yk 580, but i dont want to spend money and find out they aren't what I'm looking for.

Tires and wheels section should give you everything you need to know. Lots of different options and information.

I have Pirelli P7 Cinturatos and love them on my Bonne. Quietest tire I have ever experienced and a beast in the snow for an A/S. Why not just stick with stock size though?

225/60/17 is already 1" taller than stock. That is already ridiculous.

Haha, you got me there but not what I'm looking for. I always have trouble with traction at higher speeds, and I was thinking that maybe 18's would give it better grip and a more aggressive presence.

Get better rubber then, the size will not change anything.

Buy better tires and you'll have better performance and better traction.

But the trade off is tread wear ratings and price. They will last far less than a touring tire and cost several dollars more per tire.

I just put on Goodyear Eagle F1 All Seasons in December

    http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....ric+All-Season

They've been great, we had some really heavy rains this summer and I was plowing through some rutted roads filled with water like nothing, and I felt they were better than average on snow. They look nice too, good looking tread and the sidewalls are designed nicely.

Also, they have a pretty sweet rebate on them now, I got one rebate for $50 and another for $60. One from Tire Rack and one from Goodyear.
