Soo i thought I should probably stop blowing up the post whoring thread so here we are.

Idea started when a buddy of mine gave me a stock cam and a l67 and l32 piston and rod.

This was the general idea to start using a wood base but nah, i had some spare rotors so i hit one with a wire wheels and some $.50 black spray paint. I'll add clear probably before I finish it completely. Gonna be the heaviest fuggin lamp evar.

After some thought I settled for a finial design like this with some sort of line to run the cord through because 3800 cams aren't hollow.

Decided to use the threaded end of the cam and some washers to secure it to the circular wood base in the bore of the rotor and then having some lug nuts bolting the wood base to inside the hat of the rotor. Probably going to use loctite on the threads of the cam bolt and lug bolts so nothing loosen's up over time.

After a minor drill press incident of the peice of wood going for a ride on the end of the bit its looking good. I also found a spare braided hose to use to put the cord in to the base.

Cut the nut off the end of the hose and pushed it snugly into one of the holes in the wood base, and it works really good.

Picked up a lamp kit and figured out how to mount it, drilled a small hole in the base of the bulb holder thing to route wires out the side and not the bottom. I then filled the other hole in the top of the cam with jb weld and stuck the little threaded shaft in it hopefully as level as possible and Hopefully it holds or I have plans for a 2nd design.

So far everything is coming along nicely, maybe I'll have it done before fathers day. I'll be updating as I go.

Got the other nut cut off the hose today, used a dremel with a cut off wheel. Also had to repaint the rotors because when I sprayed clear on it, it literally bubbled and stripped the black off so I'm not risking clear again. Everything is almost done, just have to literally put it all together and pick out a lamp shade I think will look good. Should have it completely done tomorrow.

This is the aftermath of trying to add clear.

What, no slotted/drilled rotors? Its not gonna turn off that fast. Lol? I tried... How about break pads for feet? Like 4 around the bottom, pad facing down. I dunno. Looks cool though. What's the specs on that lamp? Yeah, I should stop...

    I rekon it'll do 60-0 in a 100ft or less.

As for the feet idea, I'm gonna get little rubber or felt feet so it won't scratch any table.

Little more work, the clear silver cable I bought had too much girth for the inlets on the hose so i had to drill them out larger. Worked great on one end but the other the crimp fell off no big deal tho i wrapped it in electrical tape to stop it fraying more. When I go to actually finish it up I'm going to glue it into the connector so it doesn't come off. Anyway I temp assembled everything on the other rotor while the new one dries overnight and then stole a shade from in the house.

    Looks pretty good...

Gonna get some sort of rubber feet to raise it enough the cord can go under it and so it won't scratch the surface of what its on.

Old computer case laying around? Steal feet from it. Or drill out and run the cord out the back?

should have used a front rotor, the cord would have fit in the fins for sure.get some hood or trunk bump stops, drill a hole, pop em in there. keep on with the car part theme.

No old PC cases, just my giant current one.

Drilling it was the original idea but I don't wanna risk screwing the paint up again. Plus I need to finish it tomorrow and don't want anymore setbacks so I can take it down to my dad Saturday morning after work. Maybe I'll make a less heavy one for my desk eventually.
