and thats why i buy parts online so i don't have to deal with idiots. ill buy fluids in-store, but most parts come from online. if it doesn't fit, return it. sure its not the most convenient way but its enough to keep me busy, unless its led tail lights from eBay. but if someone can find something cheaper than RA, let me know. comparing spark plugs, o'reilly has 1 (not sure what brand) for $6.99 and RA has 1 NGK for $1.59. you can guess which one ill pick from. to me, going in-store is if i need the part/fluid right away. most the stuff i do is done much later so i buy it online like months in advanced, therefore i wouldn't need to go to the store. but thats just me

Depends on what I need and when.

I work for a shop but sometimes can't get the discount I want on some parts, so thats where I will shop online to get something of equal value/quality at a cheaper cost.

I prefer Napa for just about everything but I buy from rockauto or partsgeek or even A1Auto on the internet.

Like recently, I needed a ball joint for my truck but you can only buy it with the control arm. Napa was 75-100 atleast for a decent part but A1auto was 60 shipped for a dorman control arm with grease fitting. Fits like a glove and I trust dorman parts for most things.

Or again with the brake switch I needed, napa was 30 bucks or something but rockauto was $10 for a brand new ac delco part, I'd be stupid not to pay the dollar shipping charge. Also I just bought front brakes for my truck, powerstops from rockauto were 129 shipped, rotor/pad kit. I couldnt even get parts from napa with my discount plus the tax for under 150, I'll save the 20-25 bucks and wait 4 days for shipping.

I'll research for a while before I ever buy stuff unless I know exactly what I need and I know it's a cheap price from napa.

Amazon is good too with prime. Walmart is THE BEST when it comes to oil.

I'm surprised... I think dorman is really cheap quality. Some things from them are ok tho but as a whole, F Dorman lol

    Dorman electronics blow dick.

Some of the smaller stuff work good. Inside door handle for a older truck, center console lid latch, their control arms for the GP's and the 07-13 trucks are good stuff. The upper balls joint on these trucks can be toast in 50,000 miles even with delco parts, so I don't care if it lasts 25-30k mile as that will take me a few years to drive that much.

I had the dorman lateral links, all 4, and those were actually good. Sold them to Jomamma and he seems to have no issues either.

I'm surprised the control arms are well liked on this site. I kinda figured the bushings and ball joints would fail quickly.

I did have a dorman UIM that melted at the bottom where it met the LIM on my first motor in the 97. Motor was fine but that UIM was junk!

I buy my parts at CARQUEST. I believe that since they cater mostly to the commercial customers. the parts are better quality then some of the cheap stuff you can get at the other retailers. I have had great luck with all the parts I have gotten there for both my vehicles.

Once they can compete with advance coupon codes.. They won't be my first choice. I'm cheap.. And saving money might be the only way I can keep a GP lol

Busted. lol. But there is some truth to what I said about the quality of parts, especially since CARQUEST and Advance Auto have merged, I have first hand in being able to compare the parts between the 2.

Had a CAP (Consumer Auto Parts) last year that was 9 miles away but they sucked and went out of business.

    NAPA WINS! LOL
That store got closed because of **** location. Our other stores are usually better than any of the stores you listed as far as expertise and having parts in stock or able to get. Im not just saying this because i work there either. We used to be better but are owned by a corporation and are slowly turning into advanced/autozone. Anyone that isnt a clueless backyard mechanic and doesnt know any better than to go to advanced or autozone come to us because we actually know our ****.

Even before i worked for the company i quickyl learned how clueless and retarded those other companies were and got so fed up from getting wrong part, no parts, or broken parts i eventually started going to CAP. You pay alittle more for some things but its worth it in the end.

That's funny because the prices were cheaper than everybody in the area and that store was loaded with ****ty parts and the most pathetic employees I've ever seen. They were the ****tiest liars and scammed several local businesses and customers as well. I've lived in the town where that CAP was for 18 years so IK location wasn't an issue. That store just lost all respect because the employees were scumbags and lucky for them they went out of business because it's well known in this town that some of those employees were wanted dead lol. That's how fvcked up that place was so whatever you were told is BS.

Got 2 O'reilly's and 1 AutoZone in town. There is a NAPA 30 mins away if I need. One good thing about O'Reilly's is that their distribution center is within an hour so if they don't have something in stock, it can be had the next day if the DC has it. I use Rock Auto alot but shipping is starting to get out of control. I have used Amazon a couple of times but the shipping took forever. Unfortunately there are no Advance Auto parts close by so using the discount code online for in store pickup won't help me. There are 2 GM dealers in town but they are the last resort as they do charge max markups on their parts. I try to hunt down the best deal depending on how quickly I need something for what I am doing... work on either of my 3 cars or a sidejob (paying customer).

this place called coast auto, ( was THE last mom and pop type in the area) it went to carquest, then advance real fast.

but any way back to the story, if they didnt have the part in stock, you could pay, and take the po to the distributor down the road and get your parts asap instead of waiting for their driver to get them and come back for it later.

im sure that dont happen no more.

work at a dealership so I can get OEM 10% above cost. But after doing my fbody brakes and going to napa for the first im years, I think NAPA would be my preferred place if they were closer. Was rather amazed at how much crap they had crammed into their store. Couldnt believe they had caliper brackets in stock
