LS 5.3 4.8 $500 tops junk yard all day and it can hold 32lbs of boost and get little under 1200 HP. Would I recommend that much boost hell no. Can it be done yes dial it back though to what you want. Ive seen a j/y 4.8 with a rust pit above the rings in the #8 did nothing to it other then bigger fuel injectors and 115 octane race fuel prevent Kr with a pro charger went to smallest pulley and was pushing 31lbs boost at 1107 HP they were trying to get the internals to fail and couldn't.
04 GT2: 180 t-stat, cold air intake, reptile tune, plog, hv3, gt1 cam, 90#springs, new push rods, new lifters, port polished heads, lim, uim and tb, 06 Impala brakes and steel brake lines. Cosmetic: black roof rails, under glow, Pontiac ground light, blue hud dic radio controls and cluster. To come custom hood.

you'd still start with a roller that came with an LS so you didn't have to do so much work to get it all in there...

I think a 5.3 would be a good candidate as well.
    Tons of room

2004 Comp G "The Panda"- low, e85, big brakes SOLD
2002 Trans Am- 6 speed, bolt ons or something, it's slow.
2006 Silverado- forged ls2, 4l80e, plate kit, also slow...
