I hope all of you got most of what you wanted/needed this year. I still havent won the lottery so I didnt get all I wanted. But I do have a little peace of mind this year.

so how did your christmas/haunaka turn out for you?

Mine turned out quite well. I felt like giving a lot more this year that ones in the past for how the economy is.

I also found this years gifts were more costly than last years.... but I didnt care.

I recieved a few items that I know I wont ever use, but the gift cards.... wont last long!!!

I am already online using them. lol

I cannot wait for new years!!!!!

    Amen Brother!

We saved until we couldnt save any more. And while I personally dont care for a lot of gifts on Christmas we were able to buy a few for my step-son and other small kids in the family and we did so staying in budget.

We have no credit cards at the moment simply because I got tired of the temptations. But through a bunch of hard work and sacrifices we should be out of debt before the middle of next year. I cant wait to say I am debt free.

^^^^ the hardest part for me was holding off waiting for that first check when you are able to put it in the bank. SOOO tempted to spend....instead of save

What motivated us is that if we worked ourselves to being debt free, we'd have a whole lot more money freed up to go and spend on things we want to while still being able to save. Saving money while still being able to do the things you want = Win.

my parents tried this with us when we were kids.

we werent allowed to buy something if I could not pu the same amount of money in the bank. so for everything I bought, I put the same amount in the bank....

People always scream (figuratively) that you cant go without credit cards or this and that because you'll ruin your credit because the lack thereof, or no continuing history. But I say, if you can save cash for everything you need, who needs credit. Other than a house I cant see any pressing need for credit really.

So it seems like a sound idea to put the same amount of cash in the bank for what you purchase, thought, admittedly that could be challenging but well worth it if you could do so.

Well, you don't have to have a credit card to simply to help your credit score...there are such things as Charge Cards...where you are responsible to pay it off monthly (unless otherwise agreed upon). The government uses this type of card for their Govt Travel Card and doing well on it (paying it off right after a deployment) as well as doing poorly on it (not paying it off right away...which has Administrative repercussions in the Military) both reflect on your credit report. IIRC my GOV card had a $10K limit on it when I wasn't deployed and the unit was the controlling agency for the limit. When we deployed to Iraq in 05, it was raised to $55K iirc (way to high in my book but hey they didn't pay me to think and it looked good on my credit report)
