I did some some gunwork for a guy, who has a wrecked car lot. He told me i could have anything I needed for my GP as a way of saying thanks ( besides the cash he gave me ). I got the parts I needed and was just looking around when I saw a 95 GTP with the louvers still on the hood. I thought it might be interesting to see what ideas I might be able to come up with as far as cutting and installing the louvers on my 99gtp. I have the sheet metal know-how, the tools, and friends who do body work, so I dont think its impossible. Just wanted to see if anyone has seen this done, or if it might look good with the right amount of work done to it? Any input is welcome!

These are the louvers I picked up.

The placement of the louvers on the hood is whats gonna make or break the look imo.

If positioned in the right spot, it could look really good. I would suggest cutting a few pieces of cardboard the the size and shape of the louvers, and laying them out on the hood where you think you'd like to mount them and take pictures. That way, you can compare all possible mounting locations side-by-side and make a final decision on where you think the best looking location is.

It's actually kind of funny that you bring this up, because I've been thinking of doing something similar with my hood due to the lack of selection for the 04+. I was thinking about using these Camaro scoops and making them functional heat extractors.

Yeah I need to make a few templets, and try as you said. The camaro scoops would make your gp stand out above the rest, and personaly I like the idea, it's just gonna be the same as with my idea about the ideal placement of the louvers, or in your case scoops.

I remember those louvers and I always thought they looked good on that generation of GP (I had an '89 GP as my last one), but with the body lines and styling of the current or 97 - 03 GP's Im not sure it would look the same or as right. But that is just me and my opinion. Appearance is very much in the eye of the beholder.

Thats one of the things that I have been pondering about my 99 GP, but with the right amount of work put into it...anything is possible. It's just an idea, and if its not going to look as I might plan then I can always sell them if need be. Your last comment is exactly correct. What looks good to one person may not to another, but not everyone thinks in that way.

Once I get them, I will definitely experiment with them facing front and back before I make them permanent. Regardless of whether I mount them scoop style or extractor style, they will be made functional.

With mine, the louvers have the "pan" with them. Ill remove the pan and metal screen and just put the louvers in various places on the hood, take pics, and ill start a "poll" and see what everyone thinks. Oh and like Injun said they will be functional. ...why have them any other way?
