I know this is a car forum but someone must have experience with this so any info would be greatly appreciated
He had i minor storke last night we found him this morning laying on the ground with his left side of his body swelled up and couldn't barely move the left side, so we called 911 and got him to the hospital and he had a clot in the right side of his brain.
good news is the swelling is gone down, he is able to move his left side more now but he has light bleeding so they are taking him to a special hospital but they say he is doing ok.. he remembers everything and no headaches either
what should i expect, do you think he will be able to fully recover? how long will he stay in the hospital a week or more?
any info/experiences you could tell me would be greatly appreciated as the dr's and nurses dont want to say too much..

ive been there, its no fun at all. the DR are all tight lipped till they really know whats going on, thats the worst part. they know something but dont want to be misleading.

Im so sorry to hear that. My condolences to your father and the rest of your family. Unfortunately there's not much you can "expect". Every person is different and their body's response will differ from everyone else's. And I know how the doctors/nurses are, I've had family in and out of the hospital before. Unfortunately all you can really do is wait.

Again, sorry to hear about this, it's a terrible thing to happen. I wish him the best and am hoping for a full recovery.

My uncle had the same thing happen. Except that no one found him for 3 days. He also had a blood clot. He has been in a nursing home for almost 4yrs. And he hasn't gotten any better. Can't stand or walk on his own. cannot speak or eat on his own. He was a great man in the years growing up it breaks my heart. he sits in a bed all day. I wish there was something someone could do for him.

my grandmother had a stroke a couple years back. i just got a birthday card from them that read "uncle jim and aunt ruth".

she is much better than when she first had her stroke, but she still isn't all there. granted she is probably a fair amount older than your father, no one is ever the same after a stroke.

Strokes can range anywhere from just fine to dead or a vegetable. My grandfather has had a couple of minor ones I believe but he's perfectly fine. Hopefully he fully recovers.

It all depends. My grandmother had a stroke around age 80. She will be 90 next month and is still going strong. I've seen 70 year olds not as sharp as she is.

I went through this in 91 he was fine at first BUT about two years later for he felt a little woosey, tok him to doc he was fine BUT my DAD was worried he was going to have another stroke a bit one and he scared himself SO bad that he decided it was best if he do less and less to eliminate the possibility of a stroke so he started just sit in front of TV all day if we went out he had someone else dive so he could sleep and be rested when we got there, nothing wrong with his legs but he decided to start using a wheel chair and have someone else push it. Even started having my mom cut up his dinner for him Well after years of this he has made himself an invalid, his muscles have atrophied so bad that now he can hardly move. So my advice is keep his mind active and don't let him dwell on it. Dad has been a shell since about 1996 now, he would even give my mom the newspaper to read out loud to him. It's such a shame and a waste of a once very talented mechanic and woodworker I will pray for you

Thanks everyone, just got back from the hospital, his swelling has gone down ALOT, his mind is very sharp, very alert, in a good mood, his left arm and leg are moving much better now, dr's still want to keep him for awhile and wont say much but from what i saw this morning he seem 100x better. they dont want to feed him though cause they are worried about him choking, but I think that will change soon cause he stole my coffe and sipped some when i went to the washroom, stubborn old man wont listen to the nurses about no drinks or food lol.
I cant thank you guys enough for all your support and I will continue to keep you all updated

They say the stubborn ones refuse to give up.

Hope he pulls through, seems like he's most of the way there already.

my father had the veins in his esophagus rupture and of course bleed like a stuck pig, any way in the hospital they fixed all the broken stuff. of course they wont let he eat or drink, but let him have life savers or hard candy to suck on, this sick sob would eat only cherry life savers so his tongue and lips would be blood red, he liked to F with the nurses lol
