I bought my GTP about a month ago for 4800 with only 47000 miles on it. It was garage kept, driven by an old guy named Horris, and it's in great condition. It was listed for 5k on auto trader with no picture in the post. Didn't have much hope it in it at the time because it was not a very detailed post and it didn't include any pictures.

Once I got an email back with a picture I jumped right on it. I've been looking for a GTP since I got my SE and I knew that this was a deal of a life time. I went to see the same day (was so excited to see an old guy role up in it), bought the next day for 4800 cash.

Now back to my question. The cars Kelly blue book value is 5500, but why so cheap!

My guess is because in 97', "GTP" was only an option not a trim level in Kelly blue book. When I looked it up in Kelly blue book it came up as a gt with the GTP package instead of it just being a GTP. Now, if I put it in Kbb as a 98 it's instantly 2k more and it reads exactly the same as the 97, a gt with a GTP package. It isn't until 99 does kbb read it as a regular GTP .

So why is mine so cheap?

KBB doesn't really mean anything. I'd never pay blue book value for a car but that's just me and i'm super cheap. When i checked mine out on there before i bought it it said that it was worth $3200 but i got it for $2500 and i think i overpaid but i really wanted one so i got what i got.

Considering mine has about double the miles on it... and is worth half... You probably lost out on the deal.

I wouldn't pay more than scrap value for a '97. And no more than half KBB on any other GP.

So your saying you can find a GTP with about 100,000 miles on it for 2400? Good luck.

For reference. I bought an '04 GTP fully loaded with 125k miles for $3,800.

You got screwed with a rusty knife for $4,800. Low miles or not.

    Still a crap price.

I can find cars of that model run, option set, and mileage for 3k or less here all the time. I still wouldn't pay asking price.

Bad transmission. He's lucky if he gets $800 for it.

I overpaid on my 04, but I couldn't stand my Dodge Nitro another day.

I paid 3k for my 05 with 115k, but yeah, I wouldn't have paid 1/5th of what you did for a 97 no matter the miles.

Also, GTP is NOT a package, it's a TRIM.

i think the location of the car needs to be taken into consideration. Some areas of the states and especially canada, cars cost more.
