Im probably in the minority here, but I love the performance options with it, but I think Chevy WAY missed the mark in the the styling. It looks nothing, in my opinion like the older camaros. I dislike Ford with a passion, but at leas the new Mustang looks like the older ones. Pontiac missed the styling with the GTO and it appears Chevrolet is going to miss it with the Camaro. I even seen a video on YouTube that had a section in it where the 2010 and an older Camaro were parked nose to nose and it just so stood out there.

Also, whats up with them driving the thing around in all the videos like its in a school zone or something. For crying out loud it is a performance car and designed to be so, demonstrate the thing as such. Dont drive it around like some 3-cylinder car.

I think they hit the mark quite well when compared to the right old Camaro. I think they were going for this type of look:

I'm very much in love with how it looks, inside and out.

Pontiac couldn't do much about the GTO because it's based off the Holden Monaro. They were only allowed so many sheet metal changes for it to still be produced in the same factory. Same thing with the G8 based off the Holden Commodore.

I too have never been a fan of the Camaro, but Im not afraid to say when someone gets it right, even if I dont care for the product and I still dont think Chevy got it right with the styling.

I agree, when it sits next to a 69 I think they are close. I rarely dissagree with Scotty, but I think GM hit it on the nose with this one. It looks aggressive and resembles the late 60s Camaro.
As for the school zone driving, I cant fnd one vid of anyone opening up the car and getting on it. I think GM is building suspense intenionally. From what i read on testing this car is going to destroy the Mustang and Challenger. The Camaro has a 50/50 weight distribution, plus a true independent rear suspension. That being said on a road course the Mustang will be lucky to stay in sight of the camaro. I've also read some crazy 1/4 numbers stock and with a few bolt on. For the price its gonna be one heck of a car. bang for your buck. Even if you only get the V6 version, it tops 300HP. Thats sweet

    You traitor! LOL

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. But when you compare a New Mustang to the retro Mustangs, they are so close it isnt even funny and I have to hand it to Ford for doing that. The new Camaro is not that close to the retro Camaro. The lines are just all different. That said, they did come closer than they did with the GTO.

But I was probably even more so disappointed in the GTO than I am the Camaro simply because my mom owned one and I remember it VERY well.

I would not own a Camaro at this point in its current design, and it does not look as if they will bring back the Firebird and do it any justice so I'll keep my GTP and maybe look somewhat at the G8 someday.

    ha ha, traitor?!!
Yeah I didnt like the style of the GTO at all. I was extremely dissapointed in it. As for bringing back the T/A if they dont go with the Kevin Morgan's designs it will be a mistake. He has some great designs and support of people like Chip Foose. I think he has the right idea wanting to ncorperate the older bandit style/look into a newer version.
I guess a Lot will depend on sales of this first run of Camaros. We all need to keep fingers crossed it does well to spwan future production and the possibilities of a T/A or a Z28 version.

You have to "hand it to" Ford because they did a copy and paste job? How much effort is involved in that. I'm supposed to applaud them for not being original?

You're assuming GM's intent was the same (simply cash in on a known design). GM wanted to bring the Camaro back from a complete redesign with hints and cues of retro styling. Not simply copy something from the 60s and slap it on a modern chassis like Ford and Dodge. I admire this method a lot more as it gives a modern car a different style by adding retro accents.

It was never meant to be that close.

I don't even remember GM saying that the new GTO was supposed to be like the old one. All they did was take an existing car, slap a new front fascia on it, and call it a GTO. No surprise it looks nothing like the old school GTO.

Well I agree, I have no idea what GM's intention was. Fords WAS to make a modern retro mustang and everyone else has been bringing back the retro nameplates pretty much due to the baby boomers that are starting to retire and have saved forever to relive their youth. So to that end, perhaps GM is trying to appeal to a wider audience with some cues for the baby boomers and something modern for the current younger generation.

What I had heard and read along the way, however, gave me the indication that they were focusing more on the retro look, but it was never flat out stated the intention was to be solely retro. So to that point I must conceded.

Nonetheless I still dont much care for it. Though, the Camaro has not been out of production that long that if it were to be brought back as it has that there would be much call for it to be true to any previouse design.

On the other hand, the GTO has been out of production long enough that to bring back that name plate and make it anything other than a true retro design I think really did a disservice to the badge. What many of you may not know is that GM was discussing bringing back the GTO name since the late 80's (1988 to be specific) and at that time they were stating they were going to put it on a Grand Am platform and even had a prototype that I saw, and it was indeed a Grand Am looking car with some extra styling and the GTO badge. I am at least glad they did not go that route.

I think Dodge and Ford did the right thing in my opinion in bringing back a retro car and giving it a true to form retro look. If they want to advance it from there that would be fine, but at least they started on the right page. But as I stated early on, I would probably be in the minority in this opinion, but I guess Im a bit of a purist also when it comes to the classic name plates.

BUT with the dodge or the Ford you also get some retro handling and performance. I think like it was said GM set out to build a car that wasnt like anything Ford or Dodge did. I think the lines resemble the 69 SS yet also look modern. BUT art and style is an opinion. Not everyone is gonna like it or agree. I think Ford dropped the ball on performance. I guess we will see when the camaro hits the road. Jay Leno said between the Mustang, Camaro and Callenger, he prefers the camaro. Said both for the style and the performance. He said nothing retro about the handling and performance on the Camaro. A true modern muscle car.
Nice thing is when the Camaro is on the road, so Will the G8 GXP. 2 cars to spank mustangs with, Gotta Love that!!!

To put it simply, they wanted to redesign the Camaro while paying some tribute to its beginnings. Not to simply copy an old formula.
