I think they hit the mark quite well when compared to the right old Camaro. I think they were going for this type of look:

I'm very much in love with how it looks, inside and out.

Pontiac couldn't do much about the GTO because it's based off the Holden Monaro. They were only allowed so many sheet metal changes for it to still be produced in the same factory. Same thing with the G8 based off the Holden Commodore.

I agree, when it sits next to a 69 I think they are close. I rarely dissagree with Scotty, but I think GM hit it on the nose with this one. It looks aggressive and resembles the late 60s Camaro.
As for the school zone driving, I cant fnd one vid of anyone opening up the car and getting on it. I think GM is building suspense intenionally. From what i read on testing this car is going to destroy the Mustang and Challenger. The Camaro has a 50/50 weight distribution, plus a true independent rear suspension. That being said on a road course the Mustang will be lucky to stay in sight of the camaro. I've also read some crazy 1/4 numbers stock and with a few bolt on. For the price its gonna be one heck of a car. bang for your buck. Even if you only get the V6 version, it tops 300HP. Thats sweet

    You traitor! LOL

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. But when you compare a New Mustang to the retro Mustangs, they are so close it isnt even funny and I have to hand it to Ford for doing that. The new Camaro is not that close to the retro Camaro. The lines are just all different. That said, they did come closer than they did with the GTO.

But I was probably even more so disappointed in the GTO than I am the Camaro simply because my mom owned one and I remember it VERY well.

I would not own a Camaro at this point in its current design, and it does not look as if they will bring back the Firebird and do it any justice so I'll keep my GTP and maybe look somewhat at the G8 someday.

    ha ha, traitor?!!
Yeah I didnt like the style of the GTO at all. I was extremely dissapointed in it. As for bringing back the T/A if they dont go with the Kevin Morgan's designs it will be a mistake. He has some great designs and support of people like Chip Foose. I think he has the right idea wanting to ncorperate the older bandit style/look into a newer version.
I guess a Lot will depend on sales of this first run of Camaros. We all need to keep fingers crossed it does well to spwan future production and the possibilities of a T/A or a Z28 version.

You have to "hand it to" Ford because they did a copy and paste job? How much effort is involved in that. I'm supposed to applaud them for not being original?

You're assuming GM's intent was the same (simply cash in on a known design). GM wanted to bring the Camaro back from a complete redesign with hints and cues of retro styling. Not simply copy something from the 60s and slap it on a modern chassis like Ford and Dodge. I admire this method a lot more as it gives a modern car a different style by adding retro accents.

It was never meant to be that close.

I don't even remember GM saying that the new GTO was supposed to be like the old one. All they did was take an existing car, slap a new front fascia on it, and call it a GTO. No surprise it looks nothing like the old school GTO.
