DID YOU KNOW
A '98 Monte Carlo 3100 can contain 10+ quarts of milkshake?

Friends just rolled into my driveway. "It's been leaking coolant somewhere. I put some stop leak in. Now it's making a loud clicking noise."
I did an oil change for them and told them to start shopping for a new car.

Re: POST WHORINGZ THREADZ!11!!1!one
Why not toss a fresh 3.1 in there? Oh wait, that would mean take one out.

Honestly, the whole car is junk. It's about 50% rusted through, interior's got cancer. It left a circle of paintchips in my driveway. They told me if it would take more than $200 to fix, they'll just buy a different car.

Job interviews are so nerve wracking.. I wish I could just skip all of it and be working again.

Is there such a thing as a "fresh" 3.1?
Re: POST WHORINGZ THREADZ!11!!1!one
The 3.1 and 3.4 aren't as bad as 3.8 fans make them out to be. Like anything else, if you don't take care of it, you're gonna have a bad time.
Re: POST WHORINGZ THREADZ!11!!1!one
our 3.4 might have eaten the LIM gasket of a head gasket the other day. Taking it to have it looked at on Thursday.
Re: POST WHORINGZ THREADZ!11!!1!one
My GA GT had a 3.1, and never had major things with it. It ate through a few water pumps, but those were really easy on that motor. The 3.4 on my wife's Montana...ugh...needed head gaskets at 65,000 miles...that was a nice $1500 bill...other than that, though, it's been solid. 165,000 miles in 11 years...can't complain. Still runs strong.
Re: POST WHORINGZ THREADZ!11!!1!one
Female's 3400 came up with random misfires and tstat codes... took it to her mechanic... wants to replace MAF, spark plugs, fuel pressure regulator, coolant flush with tstat... $1,300. Told her to call another mechanic... sounds like that's about twice as much as they should charge.
Re: POST WHORINGZ THREADZ!11!!1!one
you could get a used engine installed for less, holy crap!
Re: POST WHORINGZ THREADZ!11!!1!one
Yeah, I checked a couple things... Provided my own estimates are correct, she's looking at something like 4 hours of labor with $300 or so in parts and fluids. Which would mean that shop charges $250/hour labor.
Re: POST WHORINGZ THREADZ!11!!1!one
What a day. I did a lot of damage to my VW CC today. I pulled over after the low tire pressure light came on. I walk around the car and sure enough I have a flat. I proceed to change it out. I get the flat off I turn around to grab the spare and the car crashed to the ground. The factory scissor jack failed on me and it allowed the car to crash down. When the jack collapsed it came shooting out from the side of the car. The car fell on the rotor pretty hard. I didn't have to mess around. I get this POS jack, get the car back up and bolt on the spare really fast. Turns on the jack had some stripped threads and it can't hold anything up worth a dam. I'm just glad I wasn't near the car when it came down. I drove the car anyway. It pulled to the right super hard. (it fell on the pass side front rotor).
I take the car to the dealer and I need a rotor, ball joint, and tie rod, then alignment. Good thing this isn't costing me anything. It will be repaired by tomorrow. That means I will have to drive my GP in the less than ideal weather and that car hardly sees snow.

I'm not sure what the point of a full size spare is if I can't do more than 50 mph.
Re: POST WHORINGZ THREADZ!11!!1!one
whatever price you got for the parts, well you can knock 20% off that price, cause thats what they pay, then they charge you full retail, so add 30% to the price of the part you found. thats what they charge for parts. big mark up.
but then again, they have over head, and it is a business. all that could be done at home for a lot less.
hell a gallon of antifreeze is 15 bucks. t stat under 10, tune up, under 100, maf, get a used one from a junk yard, most of the time, 40 bucks. not sure on the price of the fpr but it cant be that much.
Re: POST WHORINGZ THREADZ!11!!1!one
30% markup ROFLMAO I sell to my friends at 30% markup so they get a big discount. Thats funny! HAHAHA made my day
