Good street tires make a world of difference. I know a handful of people that were cutting 1.9-2.0 60's with BFG G-Force KDWS all season tires and also the KDW tires, which are basically no-snow tires. I had Continental Extreme Contact tires on our old 95 and also got lots of 2.0s with them and maybe a 1.9 or two out of them but was scarce if I did. We always ran 26-28 in the front and 40-45 in the rear tires and it seemed to work the best. ZZP had a writeup on this a long long time ago, not sure if it is even on their site anymore. With drag radials I would get 1.80-1.95 60's and with slicks I could get mid 1.7s-low 1.8s depending on how good the track was at the time. Nittos always worked the worse for me and many other locals on fwd cars but I was always pleased with them on my Cutlass and 442. I used BFG drag radials on the prix for one summer and they worked pretty well, then the last year I had the car I bought the MT drag radials and there is no comparison! I did a lot of street racing and often beat many rwd cars off the line. Like anything else though practice makes perfect and you just have to get a feel for the car. I would stall the car up to around 2500 and let of the brake, give it NO gas for a few feet then roll into WOT over the course of a few seconds depending how the track or street felt. Just remember no matter how slow it feels from a stop by moderately accelerating, if the tires are spinning you arent going as quick as you could. It just takes a while to get the feel but is worth the time spent!
Yeah ZZP still has the write up on their site.. well as of 2 weeks ago it was...
My mods are homemae fwi, 180* stat, 25 in thrust glasspacks in place of stock mufflers, manual fan switch.... my only concern is the temps outside are going to hit near 90* tomorrow... when I ran the 9.44. I only had the fwi and it was 77* outside @9:05pm... so hopefully if it cools down some... id like to see 9.35 to 9.40
when i ran the 9.44, i had the spare, jack, cd case, and laptop bag ( i work for a software company). Think if I removed everything loose, and the spare and jack with my mods that I can hit my goal of 9.35 - 9.40 E.T. tomorrow night?
At the track I was at 25 psi on some bald ass belts showing street tires....heh...good times lol....remember guys once those tires get heated up the pressure rises real quick...so you may not be running the psi you thought...i run 45 on the street...helps with miliage somewhat ppl say...so im game
sorry your right...and im tired...thanks for catching that before everybody wakes up in the morning and thinks im a dumb ass lol..
lol its all good no worries...
It getting closer to "track time"....(bored at work), altho before i run tonight, i need to change my oil. Since this is the first oil change for my gtp since ive owned it... any suggestions on which brand of oil to use?
