You should lift weights no matter your goal. On a cut lifting helps prevent muscle loss. On a bulk lifting makes your mass gains desirable.

I have gained 8lbs in 4 weeks and only see it in my chest and biceps. I hate the fact i was a big guy all this damn extra skin.
Got down to 214.6 yesterday!
Just made a Orange / Vanilla muscle milk shake. Took a whole orange, peeled it, blended it, and added ice and 11oz muscle milk.
Tasty!

Woo Hoo!
Well gained some incentive last night. Going on my first cruise the end of September![]()
Going to swing by the local gym and get some information on personal trainers and such.
Cool. I got sucked into a personal trainer thing with a gym membership once at the work health fair. I got reading and you only get the personal trainer for two sessions and then you gotta pay. Granted the gal had a very nice rack and I would have probably enjoyed drooling over her but 2 sessions free and then you gotta pay per session. Screw that. I'll train myself.
Most gym trainers aren't certified, smart, or cheap. The situation often works into a rip-off (like $3,000/year). Personally, I would seek out an independant trainer or trainer club in your area... find someone that produces reliable results, gets reviews, has actual clientele, and isn't just making minimum wage at the local gym to play angry birds and show you how to do leg extensions and destroy your knees. Personal training can often cost like $35-70/hour, so it would behoove you to find small group training which is cheaper. Some people I used to train with back in college opened their own "gym" where they train small groups on kettlebells, bodyweight training, and self-defense. Probably the cheapest small group training available, aside from having a friend teach you, is to find a crossfit associate (usually monthly fees, comes out to $7-14/session, depending on how much you go) or olympic training facility (probably less common).
