I worked for everything I have...kids that get hand outs or spoiled get only so far in life because they don't have the work ethic. Do what you will, we can only give you advice. I say get a job. Sh1t...I had 2 jobs in high school. I still graduated with awesome grades...college was a choice, even though it was offered, I'd rather work...Especially since I don't know 110% what I want to do for the next 30 years...all those kids getting degrees that I went to school with have NO jobs...and can't get on in this economy. So much for a college education right now IMO. Granted, I'm sure it will pay off, but by then...I'll have my degree and better paying job too

My parents bought me a car in high school but I paid for it. I worked and paid gas and car payment. They paid insurance for me though. It was a 98 monte carlo ls 3.1 loved the car then I moved onto bigger and better things after high school. I started driving with a 4 cyl grand am then moved to a dodge intrepid with a 2.7 that couldnt save its own life then the monte. Funny thing is though while I had my monte carlo my parents also had a 96 Mustang Cobra convertible 5 speed. I started driving that a couple times a week and I will admit I was not ready for that but god was that car fun once I got comfortable.

This is me and I'm a dick:

If my kid presumed that my car was theirs, I'd put 'em through a wall. I was raised to earn the things I want and would teach this to my children (I've been employed since age 11, always owned my own vehicles, my own insurance policies).

Different strokes for different folks, though; I assume that if you have to ask, then we differ in philosophy a bit. If it were me, I wouldn't want a new driver to have a boosted vehicle, ESPECIALLY if they were on my insurance (I'll assume that if she doesn't have a car, she doesn't have her own policy either). Slow and safe is the way to go, if you can help it.

Meh, my GTP was my first car and my parents helped me buy it since I couldn't cover it all (I later paid them back but still). Tell her if she wants one to search craigslist and get one.

They're big, safe, good in snow. Stock GTP's are dogs compared to today's cars. Mine was decently modded and it was still slow haha.

Not a GTP, possibly a GT but more towards the lines of an SE with the GT/GTP body style. I took a test drive in an SE when me and my dad went to look for my car, and it seemed like it took of just as his GT did (he doesn't keep it in that amazing condition though..lol).

Anyone can speed in just about anything. Hell, my friend's 98 Sunfire 2.2 3 speed auto reached 110 with no problem on the highway, lol. Just gotta teach her right and make sure she keeps out of trouble.

That's how I got away with getting a GT.

i'm 19, got my license 3 days after i turned 16, and had my first car given to me. it was nothing special, 93 s-10, and it was given to me by an uncle who didn't need it anymore. i didn't have a job, and my parents paid my insurance. i worked over the summer and lived off the money from that forever. i was planning on doing that again next summer but my parents told me if i didn't have a job by the end of the month i was losing my phone and truck. i got a job, and thanked them for it later. i also graduated 5th in the class and earned a full tuition scholarship to a couple different colleges. i dropped out for now, but thats a story for the rant section. i now can almost afford to move out on my own, make a truck payment, insurance, and cell phone, not to mention food, gas, and anything else.

moral of the story: be sure to help, because it would be tough to do without a car. but don't let them take advantage of it

    Who is the parent?

I've been there, myself. My daughter asked me if she could have my truck when she turned 16. Here's a detailed account of what I told her.

    "NO"

my mom bought the gt for me,she also got a "great deal", which she wont tell me how much. she pays for insurance, but now she expects me to do lots more work around the house, which i am fine with.

Im 18 now. GTP was givin to me free but it had been crapped on by the previous owner(my cousin). parents bought it for a grand. I thought it was a great first car. auto so its easily to learn in. its a tank so it's pretty safe. comfy and spacious(good for friends). FWD good for stability.

and like above^^^ i've seen kids at school even speeding on motor scooters that can only get up to 50mph. so kids are gonna speed. just depends on how well trained they are.

My vote, give the GTP to her and go get yourself a somethin little more modern. She'll be happy, you'll be happy

I was givin my first car to me and it was a 99 Oldsmobile Alero. Yes, it wasn't the coolest car to drive, but I sure learned how to drive by having that car. I then sold it and bought my GP lol.

A lot of kids today don't appreciate anything and always expect more, even though they may already have it made, which really frustrates me. I was brought up to appreciate what you have and take pride in everything you do.

If your daughter is a good kid, has good grades and stays out of trouble then get her a car. I wouldn't give her your GTP, but go buy her a car for maybe 1-2 grand. Not only will she get a car for free, but she will also learn how to appreciate the car and realize that having a car is not only a privilege but money doesn't grow on trees either.

I was spoiled, first car was an old 79 mustang, bought for me at 15 for a grand. old but I miss it, still didnt really car about it. 17 I recieved my 95 Mitsu*****y pickup, free from grandparent.... ran it to the ground, but i learned to drive a 5spd with it. Tried to buy my first car myself at 19 in college, couldn't afford it and it fubar'd my credit... now at 25 my GTP is almost mine... all bills mine, and I'm happier for it.

I think had I bought my own at 16 I'd be a better person STILL for it. Not that Im a spoiled brat but I wasted a good 7-8 yrs before I learned to appreciate anything. Make her get her own, or at least get a job to help buy it.
It not, get her a $1000 beater and tell her if she wants something better, work for it

My first car was a 78 cadilac deville sedan, use 2 bumpertag all my buddies at school with it But it was a huge piece of $h1t, which made getting a job and finding a better car a big priority. So when i finaly had enogh 2 get the gp, it was a great day.It made me appriciate it more because i had 2 work 2 get it.So buy her an uglie but dependable beater and she will want to work for a new one.

like i said, my truck was given to me at 16. i kinda sorta appreciated it, but i always wanted to sell it for something else. my parents cut me a deal on the grand prix, but lets be fair, 1800 cash as a high school student wasn't easy to get. and i love it, because i worked my ass off for it. and now i have a loan out on an s-10 with a 350 and could only be happier if i didn't buy it in winter and could drive it. i love that one too, and i'm extremely proud to have both of them. it just means more when you earn it imo.

Im 19 and i bought my car when i was 17, a month before i could get my license. Paid for it all myself, car, gas, and insurance. My dad would help me and throw a couple hundred $$ my way when i had a couple of big repairs that had been done which i have appreciated. He did buy me a motorcycle when i was 16 which was sweet, but ive kinda been paying that back overtime (like giving him my 05 yamaha yz250f dirtbike which i bought with my own money to use as a trade in for a new motorbike cause i dont use it anymore.) But i still pay gas and insurance for the bike, which i dont mind. about 10$ to fill it up when its empty, and insurance is 570$ a year

But yea id say buy her a gt
