my kid just started driving at 18 years old. She has decided that my GTP would be hers. How would I go about separating her from my car? It is just my winter car and DD in the summer, but I still enjoy driving it?

its up to you if you want to separate from the car. i personally wont be giving my kid a car as nice as a GTP as a first car. cheap 4 banger 5 speeds makes a great first cars. but just my $0.02
Tell her to get a job and buy a car......Its really simple you are the parent she is the child. Dont spoon feed her everything or she will grow up to be on welfare. The only way some one will respect something is to earn it on there own. I worked for every car I have ever owned and now know that **** just dont grow on tress, you gotta work.
I say God bless her- Most kids nowdays want some import, and or expect a brand new ride... If you don't want to part with it, I say do like the others said, and ya'll start hunting for one of her own.![]()
I'm sure I will get bashed for this but oh well. I completely disagree. My parents bought my first car, paid my gas and insurance while in high school so I could have a car and still play sports and focus on my grades. I ended up getting a job about a year after I started driving because I wanted money to blow and started paying for most of my own car stuff. Really wish I didn't get a job. It took away a ton of time that was the last of my child hood. Instead of being an all league football player like I should have been I worked, missed practices and workouts. Instead of graduating in the top 5 in my class I dropped to 20th, barely made top 5%. I am working and in college now. My parents made my life very easy for me for the first 18 years of my life which most would say makes ppl not learn how life is. I believe its how your parents raise and give their children things, not a matter if they make them go out and do it theirself. Up to 18 is the part of life you should enjoy stress free, don't take that away.
Yah im in the same boat as you. My parents got me a car, i paid for some of it cuz i kinda wanted one with lower miles. So i think if your daughter is in highschool, has good grades, and is out of trouble go a head and get her a nice gt.
Get her a SE of GT, I think A GTP is a little to fast for a first car.
Im not saying you have to stop doing everything. I was in sports for highschool. I just bought what I would afford. Worked 12 hours or so on the weekend and made what i could. Yeah working sux but you gotta do it. I am probably biased because thats what I had to do, but it worked out well for me. I learned to work hard and still graduated in the top 15% of my class.
I worked for everything I have...kids that get hand outs or spoiled get only so far in life because they don't have the work ethic. Do what you will, we can only give you advice. I say get a job. Sh1t...I had 2 jobs in high school. I still graduated with awesome grades...college was a choice, even though it was offered, I'd rather work...Especially since I don't know 110% what I want to do for the next 30 years...all those kids getting degrees that I went to school with have NO jobs...and can't get on in this economy. So much for a college education right now IMO. Granted, I'm sure it will pay off, but by then...I'll have my degree and better paying job too
My parents bought me a car in high school but I paid for it. I worked and paid gas and car payment. They paid insurance for me though. It was a 98 monte carlo ls 3.1 loved the car then I moved onto bigger and better things after high school. I started driving with a 4 cyl grand am then moved to a dodge intrepid with a 2.7 that couldnt save its own life then the monte. Funny thing is though while I had my monte carlo my parents also had a 96 Mustang Cobra convertible 5 speed. I started driving that a couple times a week and I will admit I was not ready for that but god was that car fun once I got comfortable.
This is me and I'm a dick:
If my kid presumed that my car was theirs, I'd put 'em through a wall. I was raised to earn the things I want and would teach this to my children (I've been employed since age 11, always owned my own vehicles, my own insurance policies).
Different strokes for different folks, though; I assume that if you have to ask, then we differ in philosophy a bit. If it were me, I wouldn't want a new driver to have a boosted vehicle, ESPECIALLY if they were on my insurance (I'll assume that if she doesn't have a car, she doesn't have her own policy either). Slow and safe is the way to go, if you can help it.
Meh, my GTP was my first car and my parents helped me buy it since I couldn't cover it all (I later paid them back but still). Tell her if she wants one to search craigslist and get one.
They're big, safe, good in snow. Stock GTP's are dogs compared to today's cars. Mine was decently modded and it was still slow haha.
Not a GTP, possibly a GT but more towards the lines of an SE with the GT/GTP body style. I took a test drive in an SE when me and my dad went to look for my car, and it seemed like it took of just as his GT did (he doesn't keep it in that amazing condition though..lol).
Anyone can speed in just about anything. Hell, my friend's 98 Sunfire 2.2 3 speed auto reached 110 with no problem on the highway, lol. Just gotta teach her right and make sure she keeps out of trouble.
That's how I got away with getting a GT.![]()
