Southern Comfort Zone - Brad Paisley
They are neither boss nor sick. Those are top shelf words and that music is mid shelf at best. Whiny kids with over-the-top producing. It's like discount Eminem mixed with discount Daft Punk, all at the same tempo with reused structures like Nickelback/Creed. I wanted to like it, but the "more of the same"ness of it makes it feel like someone's just wringing every last dollar out of a formula they found works. To be fair, I might not have been listening to anything from the new album. I'll hunt those down now.
Edit: New album... These lyrics... are truly inspired. For a sixth grader. Their hearts are dark, I get it. Because they say so. A lot. It sounds somewhat different than their older stuff though. Maybe it's an effort to escape the Linkin Park comparisons. Every song is very different from the others on the album, which breaks away from the formula thing I said earlier. There's something about their music that just sounds like something else I've heard before and I can't put my finger on it (listed below). Some of this stuff can easily get played on the soft rock/pop station. Did you notice that half of Johnny 3 Tears' lyrics are all question-intonated? He's like the rapper equivalent of a valley girl. It's bugging me in every song, haha.
Possible Influences: POD, Linkin Park, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Daft Punk, Flowbots?, Owl City?, Lady Gaga?, ...I wish I knew more pop stuff... I hear influence from things I hear, but don't listen to on purpose.
I kind of feel like a jerk for being all critical of this band. Maybe they disappointed me. The bar was set pretty high.

Wow, Great White. Haven't thought of them in a long time. I checked Wikipedia, and they're still kicking, sort of. Haven't heard anything from them since '89... and am kind of scared to look their new stuff up.
I hear ya. Most seem like they just cant make hits anymore. I think people are only gifted with so much talent
****
Is that... epic trance?
I just listened to it a second time. It takes 2:27 to build to the song. It takes less than a minute before the first breakdown. Like 45 seconds. Then a 1:12 breakdown. And another thirty seconds before the bass drops out again.
Jesus, it's a minute and a quarter of useful music in six minutes. This is the junkfood of electronic music. There's no substance here... how long can you possibly hold your hands in the air for this pomposity? 4:45 apparently.
Okay... that's it. I need a nap. I'm turning into a grumpy old man scared of new music.

I visit the funky house part of my brain after 4am. Really should have gone to bed.
Notice that is the extended/original mix, intro and come down are there so that the DJs can beatmatch the previous and next songs so that it flows. I enjoy the original mixes while others prefer the radio edits
