so im just bsing on streetfire (youtube for all things car related) and i watch this sick turbo mustang push 1400 on the dyno
and of course i notice the troll in the comments say
"finally the domestic guys are starting to use turbos"
now this statement irks me in multiple ways.
for one wasnt the turbo used on diesel trucks first?
and what right do the tuners have to claim the turbo as "theirs"
so what if they use them more often
i just wanna know why the tuners feel like they have to one up domestics?
i love all fast cars so tuner or domestic as long as its fast ill drive it
but i really think some of the tuner guys and the domestic guys need to cool down and learn more about the other side of cars.

ps im completely bored and that is why i am posting this so dont hate on me too much

    This...

With large V8's, the engines produce massive torque so boating around town is always fun and when you lay the hammer down, bam boost + displacement = you're gone.

Also you guys realize that with a 3800 you need boost to be going anywhere fast right?

ya there are fast tuners but some of them just dont realize that the turbo is by no means
    theirs to claim
i drove a mazdaspeed 6 which was a riot but i guarantee it would be slow without its turbo

finally? did they ever hear of the GN or the T-Type? give me a break. most of these guys were in diapers when the GNs were on the road.

I guess every generation thinks they started something..............

Didn't Porsche stop GM from making any more typhoon's and syclone's because they out performed their cars at the time?

Porsche? No way...if it beat it...it did. Not their problem their craps slow

As for reason they quit making them though...I pulled this from a 4.3 Turbo Forum; poster had 2 Syclone's in the past.

Unless you like to turn wrenches a lot and can deal with a high maintenance vehicle, I would recommend against buying a Syclone. Syclones and Typhoons are some of the most unreliable vehicles to ever roll off a GM production line. They have good strong motors, but everything else likes to break.

I enjoyed both of the Typhoons I had while they were running, but they had too many trips to the shop for me to consider keeping them.

As for why the Sy/Ty's were discontinued, there were three reasons.

The first was that the trucks were way over priced for the market. In todays dollars, the Syclones would be ~$32,500 and the Typhoon would be $40,000-$42000. Most of us wouldn't be willing to part with that kind of cash for a what amounts to an S15 pickup or GMC Jimmy.

The second reason is the huge amount of warranty claims, which led to the third reason.

The relationship between PAS Inc, the company that created the 89 Turbo T/A's and the Sy/Ty's, and GM deteriorated and they didn't renew their contract. PAS went bankrupt shortly after.

That or they were faster than the corvettes...

NOTHING in GM's cataloge can be faster than the vette else it gets canned.

Edit... Above seems 100 times more logical.

My dad sold his 1500 series w/t with 228k on the clock, the only problem we had with it was the fuel pump, and a/c compressor. M nephew has the truck now with close to 300k and he's had no trouble with it, but it is on it's 2nd tranny. I think the older 4.3's ( really early 90's) 4.3's had a lot of head gasket issues.

I had a 2000 chevy blazer with 95k miles on it. It missed like a mofo, i was basically running on 5 cylinders. Fuel pump went bad, and i dumped about 2k into trying to fix it before i just sold it for 3k. Cat went bad twice, turned out the guy who bought it from me basically had to pay someone to strip down the motor and rebuild it. They said fuel was leaking straight through to the exhaust and ruined the cat again.
