Porsche? No way...if it beat it...it did. Not their problem their craps slow
As for reason they quit making them though...I pulled this from a 4.3 Turbo Forum; poster had 2 Syclone's in the past.
Unless you like to turn wrenches a lot and can deal with a high maintenance vehicle, I would recommend against buying a Syclone. Syclones and Typhoons are some of the most unreliable vehicles to ever roll off a GM production line. They have good strong motors, but everything else likes to break.
I enjoyed both of the Typhoons I had while they were running, but they had too many trips to the shop for me to consider keeping them.
As for why the Sy/Ty's were discontinued, there were three reasons.
The first was that the trucks were way over priced for the market. In todays dollars, the Syclones would be ~$32,500 and the Typhoon would be $40,000-$42000. Most of us wouldn't be willing to part with that kind of cash for a what amounts to an S15 pickup or GMC Jimmy.
The second reason is the huge amount of warranty claims, which led to the third reason.
The relationship between PAS Inc, the company that created the 89 Turbo T/A's and the Sy/Ty's, and GM deteriorated and they didn't renew their contract. PAS went bankrupt shortly after.
