I found a 98 regal Gs with a bad Trans pretty close by, the guy wants $750 for it. I don't really need another car but I'd like to try a tranny swap before I do one on my ultra (its fine now, just assuming the worst in the long haul) that I'm still making payments on. I can use the regal as a winter car to get Back and forth to work, and also use it in the summertime at my summer home. Or maybe I could just fix it and sell it.

Anyways, it has 130000 miles and looks to be in pretty decent shape. Moonroof, ugly aftermarket wheels, no dents or dings... The wheels tires engine and cat gotta be worth 600+ by themselves...

Am I crazy for wanting to buy it? If I get a new trans for ~250 and install myself, I feel like I got a pretty sweet deal. Nada values it at 1850 for a rough trade in. I feel like with a working trans, it will be more around average territory, bringing the nada value closer to $2500... Do I pull the trigger?

hey man, if you have the funds and ability to do it, i say go for it.

    makes sense to me.
flush all the fluids, Detail it, and do a tune up + a new trans, i think you'd have a decent car.

Thanks for your input. Also, I just thought of this... I bought a spare set of rims and tires for my ultra. I can use the 8 rims I have now on both cars and sell the fugly ones that are on the regal now... Knocks a couple hundred off of the original $750. Plus I wont have to ride around with some stupid ass wheels on my car!

... The guy keeps callin it a turbo ... As a former noob I have to chuckle at that.

Haven't seen it in person yet, that's Tuesday. Here are his supplied pics. The only POTENTIAL exterior flaws that I can see is the lack of gloss on the rear driver side... Judging from the rest of the car, I'm hoping its just the angle the pic was taken.

    for $750 id buy that.

shine it up. and make it not broken.

it'd be a good car for someone, and depending on how the car/$ is id do lim gaskets too.

It's nice and all but vinyl wrapping in lambo orange doesn't add value to the vehicle. It's not a 10k car.

i got mine for $800 with a working trans, id cut him to 500. then run with it. as dull as the paint looks mine was as bad, it will come back with a buffer.

i see it comes with the same spoiler i got on my car, and almost the same crapped out finish on the rear bumper. theres no bringing that bumper finish back.

yet to see another black on black paint yet, (like mine) seen one local, never saw it again. they all for the most part have silver trim on the bottom.

once cleaned up if the rear towers are solid im sure you could ask 3,000 and let them beat ya up some, and still feel good about the sale.

or keep it and drive it till the wheels fall off, either way its worth it.

98 Buick Regal GS, F body brakes, Caddy STS wheels, tinted tails L36 bottom end, lightly ported heads, 1.95 roller rockers, headers, gen 5 N* 3.0 pulley, FSIC, 42 lb injectors, a BrandonHall rebuilt trans, DHP tuned and AEM water/Meth injection https://goo.gl/gpV5kW
