Soo i plan on switching oils on my next oil change, which will be at 160k. Right now i am currently using royal purple 10w 30 and i want to change it cause they don't sell it at walmart anymore and they dont sell it at any of the parts stores at all, And i dont have the money to buy it and have it shipped from zzp. Soo my question to you people what oil do you reccomend??

thank god there are people out there that think royal purple works to keep them in business.

i dont really believe in the sythetic or nothing bull**** people put out there. i enjoy using cheap oil because it is cheap and it does the same thing: lubricates.

Mobil 1 sythetic....but I NEVER ran 10w 30....I always run 5w. But I guess cause I live in the south and dont need a heavier wait oil. And I ALWAYS ran Royal Purple in my 05 and when I got my 07 I put it in there...and when I changed my oil it seem to be "worn" and yes I know because we have had this talk before You cant tell by looking if oil is "worn" BLAH BLAH BLAH! But when I have used it for over a year I kinda have a idea of what it SHOULD look like. But everyone likes different things! Maybe I just got a bad batch or something. But Autozone,Advance Autoparts and O'reillys should carry it!

Where in the South do you live Jess? I live in Baton Rouge, La. All I ever use is 5W-30 also. My last oil change was with Valvoline Full Syn.

You don't need 10w in the warmer climates, it is for colder places IE Canada

You guys are backwards thinking how oil viscosity works. The FIRST or LESSOR number is the oils viscosity when COLD, 10w30 means when it is cold it will act like 10wt and when hot it will act as 30wt. A LOWER first number is important in colder climates because if too thick it can cause premature wear in the engine because the oil cannot flow well enough in extreme cold conditions and cold startups is the hardest thing on an engine since there is no oil pressure until it builds up once the engine has began to spin x-amount of time. In warmer climates this is not so much a concern. Below is some info I found quick to help explain this but you can do a search and everything will read the same. I have text books from college that go in to great depth on the matter but I dont feel like scanning all day lol

    Dictionary of Automotive Terms

A measure of an oil's ability to pour or be thick. Every container of oil is marked with the viscosity of the oil. Straight weight (also called "single viscosity" or "single weight") oil has a single number like 30 weight. A lower number means the oil is thinner and is particularly good for lower temperatures. A higher number is better for hotter temperatures. Multigrade (also called "multiviscosity" or "multiweight") oil has two numbers like 10W40. When the temperature is low, a multigrade oil like 10W40 will act like a 10 weight oil; but when the temperature increases, it will act like a 40 weight. In this way, a multigrade oil is excellent for all-around driving.

I know this thread is old, but if you're looking for a readily available Group III synthetic, I would choose Penzoil Plantinum over Mobil1 any day. Mobil cheapened up M1 a number of years back, so it's not what it used to be and no better than any of the other Group III "synthetic" oils on the shelf. My UOAs on the newer M1 were less than stellar, as are a number of others that were posted online. Platinum seems to give consistently better results.

If you do go for M1, I would suggest the 5W-30 over the 10W-30. As odd as it seems, the 10W-30 is actually quite a bit thinner at operating temperature.
