So ive been toying with the idea of picking up an older minivan <$3000 and converting into a makeshift camper.
Its mobile, Sturdy, and has the added benefit of being a junk hauler/tow vehicle when not camping.

My thought would be something old, like an early 2000s odyssey or Sienna. Go in pull the seats. Remove the carpet and trim and do some sort of insulation (like spray foam) put most of the trim back in. Build in an overhead LED light system to be powered off a separate battery system that's solar charged. Mount to the ceiling on a swingdown. Get some Velcro netting for the windows, or if really hot, a portable AC and vent out the window. maybe tac welds some studs to the floor and have a mounting system where I could install and remove shelving/storage securely. Added benefit with a hitch tow a small trailer for all of the supplies. With a trailer, there would be enough room inside for things like a sink, and camp stove.

idea is kind on in the "huh, that would be cool" stage

    Thoughts?

unless your really short, it needs to have a pop up roof i'd think. those add another bed to sometimes.

VW knew how to make it happen.

other option is buy a 6x12ft cargo trailer for ~2k and retrofit. they typically have 6' ceilings, IM 6'2 so id have to slouch but ... passable.

A Ram 150 van, late 90's to early 2000's GMC Savanna Van or a Ford Passanger Econoline Van are the only things I'd look at.

They have twice the room and can haul way more.

when i was a kid we went cross country in a camper like this. whats nice is they come off pretty easy. and back in the day you were allowed to have passengers in the back cause its kinda secured to the truck.
