What is the thinking of pulling a small popup camper with a 05 Grand Prix GXP????? I am thinking of towing a small camper or just getting a hitch for my bikes.

i have though of adding a removable hitch or something for a small motorcycle trailer, 2-3 bikes 500-1000lbs for some trips i would like to take but would like to have decent MPG compared to any truck. Im a bit unsure about doing this but i would make the hitch removable.

I thought about adding a hitch to haul my quad or bike, but I dont trust the tranny for pulling Xtra weight. The motor.. no problem, but the tranny....not so much

I'd be leary with all of the tranny problems you hear about, why put that stress on it that's more than normal driving.

Not bashing here, just having some fun......but I think I'd fall the **** out laughing if I saw a GXP pulling a pop-up camper.

I do not know if this is possible. Are there upgraded transmissions for the GXP that is better than factory?

you already drive a gp gxp so people already think your old, why not go ahead and add the trailer and hitch also.

shouldn't be a problem. tons of people tow with minivans, and gm vans all have the same tranny as the gxp, although the gxp is beefed up a bit. definitely watch the tranny temp on the dic, if its getting hot will have to add a tranny cooler. I was also contemplating a hitch for a bike rack, but would have to find something non permanent that is hidden well.

I tow an 8' popup camper without any problem. It has electric brakes so it is not hard on the cars brakes. The trailer wt. is about 1300-1500 lbs loaded. The GM dealer said it is capable of 2000 lbs towing even though the book says 1000 lbs. I have a tranny cooler installed for added protection. The supercharger is there when i need it. I don't want a truck or a mini van. It is not like I camp every weekend all year long. The hitch is barely visible (if you take the reciever off)

I thought that was a 1000lb interior capacity.

Also, it's not bad to check what kind of stress your tires can handle...

The tires are not a problem as there are only 2 in car and trunk has only light items. The tongue wt is 200 lb max by GM and I am below that.

What is hot temperature on the DIC? Any drivers in the south would have the highest.

So you have a supercharger on your GXP?
