Ok...so many people have wanted to see this thing or hear more info or whatever and pestered me to the point of creating a thread about it. Don't hate on me for the car name...it was given by my wife.
First off, this was a rescue vehicle from the junkyard. It came in with a known destroyed ring and pinion. So, in my spare time, I put together a rear from another 95 Z28 that already had 3.42's and an Auburn differential. Basically, this just included all new seals and double and triple checking all bearings and clearances. I installed the rear one night after working for 14 hours and still had zero forward or rearward vehicle motion. Found out the trans had a snapped main shaft...probably the result of someone trying to drive it with a blown rear. Regardless, back to my donor Z28. This car had a rebuilt and mildly modified T-56 with the Viper main shaft and carbon fiber synchros, so I put that in. While I had my trans out, I inspected the clutch, throwout bearing, and flywheel. The flywheel is a SLP lightweight billet steel unit and the clutch is a Spec Stage 2+. I installed the donor trans and now the vehicle had movement! YAY! This car had always had somewhat of a lopey idle, so I figured since I needed to get the paperwork done anyway that I should contact the previous owner. According to the previous owner, the engine is a semi mildly built 355 (350 bored .030" over stock for the noobs) with 11:1 compression, a GMPP cam, upgraded valve springs, bigger injectors, etc. Makes sense since this car will easily set you sideways in second gear at 60MPH if you're beating on it. It lived a lot of its life in NC and was originally from TN...the trans I replaced already had some upgrades done in '08 and was "guaranteed to hold the power" as well as the rear. Basically the guy got pissed after hurting the rear and said he was done effing with it. The car had been to the track multiple times...ran a 12.2xx in the 1/4 without spray (I did find the timeslip in the car when I cleaned it out) and previously had nitrous on it (evidence of this was the bottle bracket holes in my rear floor pan.) Anyway, my cost into the car so far with purchase, trans & rear, seals/gaskets and serp belt, registration and title fees, and paint is $1330. Not too shabby for a 12 sec. car.
Anyway, here's some teaser pics...
